It seems pretty good. It's more J-RPG than bioware in its conventions, but for what it is, I like it.
Well, since it's not "out" yet I can't buy it, but if it's decent I will.

This is what I thought and figured it was business as usual, Frog has informed me otherwise.
Damn, I was hoping for a BioWare-style RPG. Sega could have hired a ton of different Japanese developers to go the JRPG route if they wanted. The Sonic theme would be enough to appeal to me if it was Oshima/Genesis artwork but it's not (I do like the backgrounds even if they look out of place in the Sonic universe). Still, I'm intrigued by the game and interested in more impressions.
I'm not going to lie, this game lacks polish in just about every sense of the word. Abrupt scene cuts, some half-assed cel shading, sound dropout at times, and a lackluster and inconsistent soundtrack (literally can be just single tone midi in town and the battle music is low bitrate mp3 guitar riffs) Play it and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's the little things that make it look more like a release beta than a finished product.
Also throw in the fact that the dialog trees, etc are the most needless addition to a SONIC game of all things, but this IS Bioware.
The combat system is the best thing going for it, though if you've ever, I mean, EVER played Ouendan or Elite Beat Agents, expect to never die. The sequences are really easy.
So the DS can even ruin BioWare. I have clearly underestimated the power of the dark side.
I blame Sega. The DS still has worthwhile stuff now and again.
