Thread: Sony's $99 Waggle-Wall PS2 to Compete with Wii

  1. I can't really buy into that. They've got their engines going full bore behind the scenes now to make the PS3 worthwhile. The PS2 is still selling like crazy. If that ever tapers off, they can simply drop the price to $99. Doesn't get much more mass market than that. I really don't think they need to make some kind of add on to keep the PS2 going. There is no reason to.

The PSone LCD screen was aimed at the same market as the GCN crowd (Don't ask me why, but this was straight from a Sony Rep's mouth), so Sony has released accessories for old systems to combat new ones.

PSone games being played on a PS2 are still PSone games. They could've cleaned up the graphics of those games and sold them as PS2 titles, but they didn't. Are PS2 games essentially PS3 games as well then? I haven't seen anyone buy a PS3 to soley play that pile of PS2 games sitting on a shelf.

I think the train of thought behind aiming it at PS2 rather than PS3, if any of this is even true, is that at $100-$200 (Depending on what excatly is rumored to come out at $100) is a lot more "mass market friendly" than something that is $600+. If any of this is true, Sony is going for the market that is giving Nintendo headlines accross the world right now. It may be a bit of "me-too!" syndrome, but Sony likes to make money and is willing to adjust to make more of it. Plus, who's to say that, down the road, some sort of playstation 2 wand-type controller couldn't be used on the PS3 for PS3 designed games as well, especially if this thing hooks in through the USB port?

That's because you're not friends with Compass.

Now, if this thing ends up being true and Sony designs it right (make it Bluetooth, include a USB adapter for the PS2, and a driver disc for both systems if necessary), it could end up being better than the Wii. It would eliminate the need for an extra console for the sole purpose of a controller, have a lower cost at the technological similarities point, and anything for the PS3 wouldn't have to sacrifice current-gen graphical quality. Granted, it's been long enough (and even more so by the time this thing would be coming out) that I'm not sure if Sony would really have much of an impact, but who knows?

The ps2's video output isn't all that great, I see some logic in playing the ps2 titles on ps3. If I wasn't so cheap, I might go down that road.

Sega, Activision (Call of Duty 2/3), and Vivendi Universal seem to be good about region free titles. The NTSC-U/C system has poor regional compatibility- Play Asia's region guide has a lot of No symbols in this column. Only a few titles won't play in an NTSC-J system, which kind of makes me a bit glad I imported a 360.

BTW, the controller chip requirement thing is fucking lame. Isn't reaping license fees on the games enough? MS is getting a tad greedy it seems- they want money out of every 3rd party controller.

I'm a bit pissed that I can't use my Thrustmaster AfterBurner 2 PC throttle/stick setup for Over-G or Ace Combat 6.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

    So much truth.

I like the system, but hate the fact I had one die already. I love live but I hate the microtransactions.

Microsoft is really pissing the momentum it had away this time around. Having a system with such a high defect rate is pathetic, not doing anything to reverse the problem is bullshit. Also, for being on the market for this long, there really is a suprising lack of quality games out there. Not just microsoft, but PS3 as well.

No one cares about Project Assfeed. There is a difference. But that's not even the big difference--the difference is that MS is a publisher AND the maker of the actual platform in its entirety.

If you don't think other PUBLISHERS weren't upset about a free pack for a game that sold 5 million copies, then you're crazy. MS publishes Gears for THEIR platform. MS makes all the map packs free. Guess what happens? Publishers can't charge for their stuff because the competition (by the maker of the platform/service/etc) is FREE! I'm not advocating charging. I am saying MS is in a tough spot. They charge, hardcore gamers complain. They don't charge, publishers that deicde what games go where complain. Guess which one is more important (sad but true)?

Besides, this is a stupid argument. Blast Factor MP--charge. Tekken 5 MP--charge. Resistance maps--charge. Motorstorm track--charge. I fail to see how Sony is any better here. They come across as better because there's nothing to download!

  9. This console generation is the worst yet because of all the lame fucking names being tossed around. "Wii," "Waggle Wand..."

WTF? As if Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS weren't dumb enough.

What the fuck are you taking about. I've played NOTHING but 360. Everything else has been pathetic. Wii, DS, PSP, PS3. Not a damn thing.
