I'm not advocating the death penalty for most crimes. I favor bigger fines and tougher longer prison terms for most crimes, with the death penalty reserved for murders and especially heinous cases of rape/torture.

Also See: China. They recently executed their former head of their national health department (equivalent to the head of the FDA here in the U.S.) for taking bribes to allow "defective" medicine into the market. That same medicine resulted in the deaths of 10 Chinese citizens.

Yeah, what I said still applies. You want the death penalty applied to crimes like that, go to Iran. They parade rapists through the town making them suck on what is essentially the Iranian version of a urinal cake. Then, of course, they're executed. Yeah, no thanks, not the kind of country I want to live in.

Why are you so fond of rapists? Rape is a sadistic and horrible crime that destroys lives. I wouldn't support execution for every rape conviction but if the rape is especially sadistic or brutal and there's concrete irrefutable proof of guilt then fry the mongoloid.

I agree. In this country people sit on death row for 20 years and often get their death sentence commuted to life in prison anyways. In other countries the death penalty is a deterrent because the criminal knows if they get caught they'll be hung within a week. If there's DNA evidence and we know for absolutely certain that the guilty really are guilty then I support frying them the day after the conviction. Crime rates would plummet.

Uh, ever hear of the 19th century? We did exactly that, minus the DNA part (hell, you could even get hung just for stealing a horse), and yet crime was just as rampant as it is today if not moreso.

I'm not promoting the death penalty for horse theft, I'm promoting increased and expedited use of the death penalty for horrific and violent crimes such as murder and some rapes when DNA evidence is present. In the 19th century it was a lot easier to get away with crime than it is today.
