Thread: Superman: Doomsday

  1. Right? In the end I'm ok with the movie, but #1 and #4 are exactly what I said - I'm ok with the fights, since they were like 10 minutes long.

  2. Crap I need to watch this DAMN SCHOOL TO HELL.

  3. I'll probably pick this up Friday. Death of Superman is the story that got me reading comics.

    Doomsday is just awesome.
I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.

  4. It has so little to do with the death of superman its disgusting. This movie was based more on the rebirth of superman (you know the really shitty comics that came out after the good ones?) No Justice League and no green suit for doomsday.

  5. Yeah, I read that. The most disappointing thing to me, is the omission of the Reign of the Supermen storyline. If they did straight adaptations from Death through Reign, all would be right with the world. Instead they gotta pare it down to the bare minimum. I'll still give it a shot though.

I have to agree with this. I'm an hour into it and it's just not what I wanted out of a Death and Return of Superman story line at all.

Some of the voice acting is done quite well, others not so much. I really do not like the voice for Lois at all. I will also agree with everyone else the lines on superman's face are just weird. Also where were all the other super heroes

  7. I picked this up today, and although I can't say I regretted the purchase (being a huge Superman fan), I am a bit disappointed, though. The fights were pretty good, on par with some of the Justice League Unlimited stuff (vs. Captain Atom, vs. Captain Marvel, vs. Darkseid, etc.), but for a feature-length outing it should have been a little more spectacular.

For a movie titled "Superman: Doomsday," I thought it would be 90 minutes of Superman and Doomsday duking it out from one end of the U.S. to the other, like they did in the comics. But that was only one-third of the movie. I guess I just feel a bit misled. Overall, it's still pretty decent but it could have been a lot better.

  8. The documentary on the disc is really good.

  9. Well I picked it up last night. I really liked the Doomsday stuff, except for the fact that he was supposed to be some kind of killing war robot. After that, it was downhill. Anne Heche, the cheekbones. Yikes. Evil Supes dropping the Toyman was kinda cool, as was the Kevin Smith cameo which pokes fun at what WB wanted him to add to his Superman script.

  10. Actually, once one considers the documentary, I don't see how you could be disappointed with the purchase. I haven't watched the commentary yet, but previous Bruce Timm commentaries have all been very entertaining, too.

The movie itself was good. I knew the story of Superman's death and return, but I never read the comics, so I didn't have any exact expectations. I think some complaints being lodged are silly. One replacement Superman in a short feature film is just going to work better than four. Also, if the film had been one large beat down, instead of the two and the down time in between, than there'd need to be one or more films to bring him back. And although I enjoyed the emotion of the middle act of the film, I don't see myself or others buying the DTV Superman: Remembered.

The action was incredible, VAing was mostly great if you can get used to not hearing the usual voices. Luthor was the most "bad" I've ever seen him in film form, and I liked most of the other characterizations too.

Not my favorite DC animation work, but very good.
