Marriage these days is a contractual recognition of a legal relationship (marked by a marriage licence) which includes a few thousand local/state/federal/work benefits both great and small, which includes long term mutual support, healthcare, and other personal services. This includes helping care for children from pervious relationships (marriages/bastards/adoption) Any long term couple should be qualfied for them. Will some homosexuals do it for the wrong reasons, flagrantly with tons of media coverage? Absolutely, should the misbehavior of some be a bar to all? Absolutely not.

As for the whole religious/tradition bullshit can be left up the churches, but the legal institution should be fully and wholely avaliable to any pair of consenting adults. If Catholics, Muslims, or others have a problem with gay marriage, that's just fine, don't marry them.

The policy question for society as a whole is this: Do we want to encourage people to settle down into stable long term relationships where they can take care of each other in hard times, make each other's lives easier, and help advance each other's goals, like family and career building? Absolutely. does marriage enable and advance that goal, absolutely. Do homosexuals currently raising their own children suffer because they are left out of this benefits contract? Yes. Is it fair that a homosexual in a 20 year relationship be denied the ability to extend his health care coverage to his partner just because he didn't luck out and be born straight like everyone else?

Is there any reason to deny them this legal benefit as a United States Citizen, other than Animus and tradition, the same bars that were used against women voting, and owning property as well as the real reason for Jim Crow?

Well, facts aside and relying on my pure bigotry and superstition i dont want gays to marry because i dont like the term Marriage applied to them.
Simple as that. Facts or not. Just like how Bush wont believe his war is going no where, i stand by my anti-gay marriage purely for the sake of novel nitpicking. Call it Life-Partnership or Garriage, but not marriage.

If you look at many countries who have had this happen(ex: Hitler, Stalin) you can see that they achieved relative peace within their captured territories by killing all who opposed. They also were able to expand their borders quite fast-any connection?
