I love how you're writing this off without even learning anything about it. If you can watch the gameplay videos, the trailer, and listen to the impressions of people who have actually played it and still write it off because of some PS2 game from half a decade ago you're probably an idiot. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

  2. Well even though this is obviously going to be a better game than Killzone 1, I think after watching videos and reading up on it, that its priorities are still similar. That is to say, it's a beautiful piece of technology and that motivates the developers more than any aspirations of innovation in design. It is a beautifully rendered, animated, and detailed portrayal of an ugly, drab, uninteresting world without much in the way of creative gameplay.

I'm just not sure that's what we need in a FPS right now.

I would have tried to convey this if Frog didn't first. I don't fall for the "wow eye candy and plays ok" line anymore when games are $60.

I think the fact that it's received near unanimous praise from people who've actually played it speaks louder than how many gameplay bullet points they can put on the box, but that's just me.

If you're just getting tired of FPSes I understand though. I reached that point a long time ago, and I haven't really played one since finishing Bioshock in the summer. Maybe if I played them all the time I'd be less interested here.

Not necessarily. It's such an over-exploited genre that I'm not sure well-executed convention is quite enough without something to set it apart.

I'm not sick of FPSes as a rule, but I am sick of the ones that don't even try to stand out. I don't want to play Call of Duty: World at War, or whatever either, but if it has its own spin and its own gameplay to master like, say, Crysis, then I'm a lot more interested.

Killzone just seems like a game designed by the marketing department and not something honest and original that was made by creative people.

Visually it's impressive but I agree with Frog that it's hard to get too excited about a game that (as far as I can tell) makes no effort to try anything different for the genre. I'll still play a well-made FPS that does nothing new (I liked Pariah more than most) but they're usually games I wait for price drops on.

At first I didn't care for this game. Then I got excited for it. Now I'm back to not caring until the co-op patch hits.

  8. I think the OOMPH that it seems to have will separate it from most games. It's one of the only things that will get me to turn on my PS3 in 09. Or was that 08...;/

    ANYWAY it'll be awesome.

  9. zomg review time

    9.5 Presentation
Everything from the first entrance onto the battlefield to the last cutscene creates a hectic, fun and fast-paced thrill ride through a warzone where each step you take could be your last.
    9.5 Graphics
Phenomenal visuals prove that Guerrilla either met or surpassed that infamous E3 trailer. Some technical issues hold it back from being a completely flawless masterpiece.
    9.0 Sound
7.1 channel sound captures every nuance of the battlefield from gunshots to screams along with a great soundtrack. Weakly delivered, curse-filled dialogue (sans Brian Cox) could've been done better.
    9.0 Gameplay
You'll have to get used to the firearms as well as the AI on both sides. More turret and vehicle sections would've been great, but outside of that, the single-player campaign is fun to play through.
    9.5 Lasting Appeal
Multiplayer is extremely deep and has the added bonus of an offline skirmish mode. This is where you'll spend the majority of your time once the credits roll.
    9.4
    Outstanding OVERALL
