Thread: Killzone 2 (PS3)

  1. I hate the no-HUD convention in FPS, too. What's the point of that? Pretty much ruined CoD2.

immersion? COD and Killzone 2 both dont have character with helmet visors on.
b_ri on Twitch, Games Beaten in 2020 (3): Pokemon Sword (Sw), Detroit: Becoming Human (PS4), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (PS4),

  3. Until they make a game where I can feel how fucked up I am, it's kind of a necessary convention. The Wolverine health thing isn't very immersive either.

Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is bringing the fight to the enemy’s home world of Helghan. Taking the role of Sev, the battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit known as the Legion, players will embark upon a mission to the planet Helghan to capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the enemy’s war machine to a halt. For Sev and his squad, the invasion of Helghan is just the beginning. Tasked with securing Pyrrhus, the Capital City, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to the planet’s hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power from the environment that can be used against the ISA. Sev and his team soon discover the fight is greater than simply addressing the enemy forces; the Legion must also learn how to handle the effects of the fierce enemy planet.
Sev not Seb, my bad, more info:
Story driven singleplayer campaign. Urban warfare to vehicle focused levels and more. In between missions return to ISA cruiser ship which function as a hub. You're always co-operating with a tight squad of soldiers. First person cover system. The Helghast take use of their homeworld weather as a weapon. Expect a large and varied lineup of enemies (grunts, droids, dogs..etc) and weapons. Story starts media res (in the middle, invasion of Helghast homeworld already taking place). You're playing only a single character this time (special force 'Legion' trooper named Sev) and there will be returning characters with Rico most notably being your squad leader. Multiplayer currently supports 16 players and will support Killzone.com website & PlayStation Home extensively. Game engine is all covering: Destroyable environment, dynamic lighting & shadows, range of filter effects, motion blur, FSAA, huge scale & highly advanced animation, 7.1 location specific audio and more. Beta later this year, early 2008 release (~March). Much more details to be revealed over time.

Call of Duty 2 is awesome! I had not one problem with it.

    No it's not.

Agreed, and why would you put a HUD in any ww2 game?

Players can not feel that bullet ripping through their leg?

Videogames can not give off nearly as much feedback as what they are trying to emulate (especially outside visual feedback), so abstractions and shortcuts like a HUD giving you an idea of your present condition are necessary.

To be fair, most of these HUDless games (like CoD2) usually are not truly feedback depraved -- in CoD2 for instance, you always have a rough idea of how likely you are going to die; it just only displays something when you start taking on fire.

  9. HUDless games typically have plenty of feedback of what's going on. Between rumble, sound effects, color indicators for where you're getting shot, and on screen indicators for things like grenades, there is more then enough feedback for the player to have a good understanding of their current condition and what is going on.

To say that all FPS games need a HUD is retarded, and to say CoD2 was "pretty much ruined" by not having a HUD is even more so. Especially since despite Frog's distaste for the HUDless set up, there are plenty of games that pull it off successfully.

  10. Gears of War does a good job of conveying your health status without a typical health bar.
