Thread: Super Stardust HD

  1. If you've played it, please consider giving it a rating.

  2. I think I'm doing this right.

  3. I like this game, but it just doesn't have the addictive nature of Geometry Wars. I think it's the multiple phases, but it also may be that I suck at it, while I don't at Geometry Wars. Either way, worth the $10.

  4. I don't think it's as good as GW2 for a few reasons, and my two biggest issues are the targets and the graphics. The asteroids that are getting destroyed simply take too many hits for my tastes, they get broken into such tiny pieces that the screen fills with itty-bitty rock parts that are just mildly annoying more than anything else. I'd rather kill stuff and then move on, not break an object in half, then break that half in half, that half in half, that half in half, etc. The stream lava weapon when powered up does a fantastic job against the gold asteroids, but everything else is a pain in the ass.

The graphics are also way too concerned with throwing out particles. This is the first game of its type where I can legitimately say that so much crap is being tossed around that I can't see my ship and have no clue what's going on. When something is destroyed it throws out a layer of shiny particles that are just for effect on top of all the other particles which include objects that can smash into my ship and kill it. And if I'm in the middle of a shitstorm of asteroids dropping in and use a bomb the screen might as well display a test pattern for all that I can tell. Get rid of the useless particles, or if you must have them put them below all the important things that actually deal with the gameplay. I've lost a number of lives due to issues I felt I had no control over and that's not a good thing.

Other little things bug me though not to any great extent. I don't like the dropping in of enemies and asteroids because sometimes it's hard for me to tell just how high off the ground they are and it makes timing bombs a bigger pain in the ass than it should be (I can bomb the screen and kill everything yet still have it filled with enemies and asteroids). The camera is also too close for my tastes, I don't like how many times I can't see the top and bottom of the planet.

It's a really good game and I have a blast playing it, but there's a number of things here which can be improved on.

  5. Good:
    Pretty
    Sounds good
    Start on any planet
Lots of different stuff to kill

    Bad:
    Weapon switching
Takes too long to get difficult
    Perspective/clutter sometimes annoying
    Sixaxis controller is meh

    Better than:
    Blast Factor

    Not as good as:
    Geometry Wars: RE

    Anticipation rising for:
Mutant Storm Empires, Geometry Wars PGR4 edition (!!)

  6. It's good stuff but sadly I'm more of a traditional shooter fan. There's always planet mode but I don't like it when stuff goes on forever.
btw, there should be a an option for 0.5 points on the other ratings as well.

I don't see how weapon changin is something bad, it's what makes it stand out a bit and gives the game some meat imo. It works pretty well.

I rarely have that problem honestly but I did think GW2 failed in that aspect. If shit get's to hectic I usually boost out of there. Do you know that you can change the camera in the options menu btw? Maybe it's not to far away for your taste.

I don't have the problem often but it does occur, usually when lots of stuff starts pouring in and then I bomb. All of a sudden I no longer have any idea how many incoming items I destroyed and how many landed after my bomb or even if anything's still coming in because all I see are explosions and particle effects. I've died a number of times thanks to that, whereas in GW2 no matter what it throws around I can still see my ship and everything coming at me.

Didn't know, I need to take a look at that.

  8. I like this game, not so good as GW2 but that's okay, it is still fun and addictive.

  9. from the looks of it, this game is about to get that much better

    My only question -

Why in the fuck do I have to be signed in to save a high score? They really couldn't have scores saved just for the machine you're on?
