Thread: Luminous Arc

  1. Luminous Arc

I don't know what it is about Atlus, but it seems they have a new game with the same style of cute and gameplay coming out everyweek. This month or coming time it seems to be a game called Luminous Arc, an SRPG carrying over some Fire Emblem style getting to know the characters and character interaction synergies (Don't know if it effects the end of the story or anything but it helps for combo attacks apparently.)

As far as I know there's also apparently, (according to gamespy) voice acting. One of the cool things is, WiFi at least. You can battle other players and with how good you are get rare items. The game itself is controlled with either the stylus or the dpad, though Gamespy reported that the stylus control was a little... well it didn't register all the time you'd have to really try to select your characters. And with the way they can bunch up, plus the inability to change camera angles, it can be hard to select your characters with the stylus.

Also Gamespy complained about the AI how it was fairly stupid, though Supposedly Atlus claimed the game wasn't entirely finished yet... but I dunno. Poor AI can really ruin a game, since difficulty itself is already so hard to come by.

Also, weapon creation system, which generally I enjoy, hell I loved Legend of Mana's weapon creation system lol just cause you could make some cool weapons.

    Release date is 8/14.

You can move and attack each turn for the characters, but if you only do one of the two it reduces the time between moves for hit and run tactics or you can go for the stand there and get in some quick hits before you take one.
It's Atlus so it'll be cutesy, the story is probably so cliche'd that I can tell you the ending after the first chapter. I'll probably let someone else play it a bit before I bother picking it up, but Atlus really... they keep releasing stuff so fast Do they have like 20 teams on their development staff?

  2. I am definitely interested in this since I am a srpg junkie.

  3. As am I, it sounds like it could be a very fun and enjoyable SRPG. Can't be any worse than FFTA!

But because it's Atlus I'm a bit Iffy. I love a lot of their games, but now there's just so many that I'm skeptic about the time and effort put into them.

  4. I liked FFTA but I gave up after 30 hours or so. I am playing Hoshigami now, I know it isn't the best but I am enjoying it thus far.

  5. Haven't heard anything about that one actually.

  6. I like the mechanics but battles are long (for a handheld game, but not for a SRPG). I heard that magic is overpowered and only way to win the game, unfortunately.

  7. So, does Luminous Arc play like, say, Final Fantasy Tactics or more like Fire Emblem? From these pictures it looks very FFTish.

  8. It looks to be more FFTish, the only reason I mentioned Fire Emblem is it seems there's a way to build up synergies or relationships between the characters. Something I love about Fire Emblem (But I doubt theirs is anywhere nearly as in depth as FEs so I'm probably blowing that part out of proportion). Definitely plays like FFT.

  9. I've been keeping up with this for months, very excited that it's being released.

Considering Atlus US licenses niche games from the whole Japanese development scene, not just Atlus Japan, a high output isn't surprising.

EDIT: In fact, after checking, it appears this very game is licensed from another developer, Marvelous Interactive, better known for the Harvest Moon series.
