If you ever find yourself wondering what it would be like if your TV had Autism, this may be the answer. Stella is a very strange and random comedy series from the comedy trio of the same name. Its not so much a sitcom as it is a strange set of sketches threaded together loosely by a plot. It stars its 3 creators as themselves, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain.
You might be wondering who these guys are. Remember the comedy show "The State"? Well when that ended these 3 guys went off on their own while the others went on to form Reno 911. They are also the creative minds behind what is possibly the best comedy movie ever made, Wet Hot American Summer. If you enjoyed the really lame yet hillarious parts of the latter then you should love this show too. It has the same unique brand of humour, only more potent (and yes, even more retarded).
Incognito. The boys making a super cool entrance undercover.
Each episode is its own epic tale full of the shows strangely cerebral stupidity, including: stopping a bully from terrorising paperboys by means of a friendship rap, getting brainwashed into assassinating the president of their apartment complex, and a rickshaw/bike chase guest starring Janeane Garafalo that rivals anything by the likes of Michael Bay and his kin.
The writing is dead on as are the performances, and it's wonderfully shot. Alot of their friends make appearances too, from Edward Norton to Topher Grace, and pretty much the whole cast of Wet Hot American Summer makes an appearance at some stage (including Paul Rudds amazing performance playing a mean asshole they have to show up.)
Some how this show has slipped under the radar and only ran for one season on comedy central. Its available on DVD for dirt cheap and aswell as the 10 episodes contains a decent amount of bonus material. I strongly urge you all to check it out, as it would be a shame for such great comedians as these guys to go unnoticed.
This was one of the few television shows that I ever went out of my way to watch. Shame that it only lasted a single season while shit like Mind of Mencia continues to rack in the ratings.
I really liked this show and I was dissapointed to hear that it was cancelled, I felt that it had a lot of potential for growth. The thing about this show was that it didn't always make me laugh, but it did always put a smile on my face. My favorite episodes are Coffe Shop, Election and the begining of the first episode.
This is one of my all-time favorite shows. Utterly inane and quick-witted at the same time. The one handed bottle-break in the Election episode pretty much sums it up.
