they were up until what, April of '07? if you bought it when it came out you had plenty of time to play. it's not Konami's fault the PS2 online community was so anemic or that people buy the game late.

The servers were up for less than a year. And they were still quite well-populated when they pulled the plug.

Pulling them was an obvious ploy to get more people to buy Portable Ops. In fact, they were annoyingly blatant about it, the 'message of the day' field on Subsistence online right before it was cut read something along the lines of "MGS3 servers are going offline April XXth. Buy Portable Ops for more online action!"

It was ridiculous and inexcusable. Say what you will about Live, but that shit would never have happened there.

Clever to put this on the PS3 where only 16 people will ever be online at once! Props to Konami for that.

I just have a feeling this game is going to look great and play like crap, metal gear is really a single player game at heart.
