Thread: JJ Abrams' Star Trek

  1. You're right, alot of movies do follow the same formula. But when they are in the same series of movies, it has to be called out. Especially when they were so cynical about it and gave themselves an even bigger out (Romulan Data + Experimental Backup of Data's brain = Hey, who cares if Data blows himself up saving the ship, we'll use the spare. Totally ruins the whole Data is sentient and special argument the series had going) than the first time around ("Remember")

It was a total cop out, no arguments there.

But the "real Data's" exit was fucking awesome. I edited my rip of the movie to end there.

also: edited my copy of 300 to end when the arrows flew in and the screen faded to black...

Movies are so much more exciting when you have video editing software.

Wrath of Khan is a better movie, I'll give you that.
I love this movie, plus the Search for Spock and I have a feeling I'm the only one that liked Undiscovered Country.

  4. I loved Undiscovered Country. It was an awesome send off for Kirk and the Invincibles. Sulu finally got a ship, Kirk fought himself, got it on with a shapeshifter, McCoy finally expressed his admiration/disgust with Kirks womanising ways, and space ships blew up real good. And it didn't insult my intelligence while doing so.

There was still some retarded stuff, like sneaking into Klingon Space as a freighter, and other things I can't recall at the minute, but the amount of retarded was vastly less than the bullshit I had to put up with in Star Trek movies made after First Contact.

Nah... the rule is "even numbered Trek films don't suck"

    Khan
    Whales
    Klingons
    Borg
    Romulans

    you know?

  6. Nemesis killed that rule.

I don't know... I really liked it. Saw it more times in the theatre than any other trek film.

  8. Was this during the drug period? Maybe that helped. Or maybe I was just really jaded against it because I thought they were ripping off Khan, which is my fav one. I will say that looking back, Voyager doesn't seem nearly as bad as I remember it, and even Enterprise isn't as bad as some people say.

Seen it on and off drugs. Its just as good both ways.

    Give it another shot.

  10. Random Comment for the day: I still think those "Ear Crawlers" in Wrath of Kahn are probably one of hollywood's creepiest creatures.

This new movie better have some cool alien fauna in it or I'll be bummed out.
