  3. i was reading this article just now and found an interestind tidbit

My source also informs me that the profit and loss on hardware has been moved from Sony Computer Entertainment International (SCEI) to the regional groups, SCE America, SCE Europe and SCE Japan. This means that each territory is now free to set its own pricing on PS3 hardware, but those individual territories are responsible for managing the hit to their profitability if they decide to cut the price.
interesting move, the $399 40gb rumors only become stronger and stronger by the day. Last i read it was 40gb, only 2 USB ports. Add to that the more probable lack of EE-less like the 80gb.

  4. So long as they keep HDMI/Bluray, $399 is a good deal. Amazing if they don't yank wifi.

  5. So you can buy the too expensive model with crappy BC or the cheap, gimped model? Figures they'd axe the one with the best of both worlds. Hopefully I can still pick up one of the 60 giggers before they're all gone.

yeah thats something i was wondering as well. Remote play is also now available on all SKUs since now its over LAN and not just direct WiFi.

It won't be long before those are gone. Sony depleted their warehouse inventory in August.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Sony's online inventory had been fully depleted. In July, after slashing the PS3 price by $100, the company said that the now discontinued 60GB PS3 would be available for several months. At that point, Sony alluded that they may also reduce the price of the $599 80GB PS3 to $499 as many analyst expect.

I suggest you get one now if BC is important to you. I bet down the road in the used market, 60 gig model will hold up the value better than all the new ones without the EE chip.

  9. I think this is so funny what sony is doing... No one in video game history has ever dropped the price of their console in the first year that it was available. Having different models available or changing major components inside... And you say sony isn't hurtin'

I thought Gamecube/Xbox had price drops within the first 360 days...
