Thread: Official PlayStation 3 Thread 3: Rise of the Machines

  1. Wow no more ps2 BC on the low priced model. Im just waiting for teh day when its like "omg sony adds in firmware ps2 BC"

im waiting for it actually, seems like it would be a perfect publicity stunt. So long as it doesnt become a norm for all units and is just for this dummed down SKU then thats alright i guess, some people could care less about BC, not myself though.

  2. Sony Masterminds.
"Our PS3 library sucks, how can we get people to start buying games for the system they have bought?"
"I know, we'll eliminate the ability to play the old games! Then they'll have to buy Genji! We'll flip many copies of it for maximum profits!"

  3. Is it clear that they're not gonna work on the PS3 software emulation at all? If so then the people who have the non EE PS3s will be stuck with compatibility issues. Maybe they'll get so much flack for this that they'll put BC back in.

  4. I'm terribly confused about the entire situation.

Assuming they did remove it, yes, I kind of expect that they'll have no choice. It's getting to be absolutely absurd. To get so much so wrong absolutely must require effort on their part.

I got another Sixaxis this week, so our favorite PS3 game is now... SF Anniversary Collection. I'm terrified of the prospect of my EE PS3 dying anytime, well, ever. I don't want a software one and I certainly don't want one with no BC at all.

I don't see why the 40gig model wouldn't have backwards compatibility, when the 80gig model does? Sony does have a webpage, that shows what games are compatible for the 60gig and 80gig models, so one would have to wonder why the 40gig model won't have it as well.

firmware seems to give and take depending on the features of the model you buy, remote play wasnt availible to 20gb users until they made the LAN feature available. I think these new $399 ones are GS-less as well as EE-Less, making a lot of things cheaper i guess. Id hope they would have some kind of Cell+RSX solution, but i have a feeling for the time being its gonna be their way to sell more higher end models, while also featuring a low cost one, and get maybe just a few more PS2s sold, since they are making money on those.

  7. All PS3 systems are 'GS-less.'

    If im not mistaken.

All ps3 units began with the EE and GS in a single chip. The euro 60gb and new 80gb got rid of the single chip hybrid, threw in the alone GS, and had Cell emulate the EE, thats why there are some BC issues.

Now with the 40s, it looks like they removed the GS as well.
