They weren't, actually. There's absolutely nothing analog in VO or VOOT.The OG VOOT machines were analog.
I might actually prefer an adaptation of the American DC VOOT gamepad scheme, but with the rotation moved from the analog stick to the extra shoulder buttons given on a 360. That was the only real issue with it.

Also, I actually Played the Arcade version of Virtual On back when I lived in Texas (I was 11 at the time or something like that) at some resteraunt with an arcade for my friend's birthday. Had no idea what it was, but when Tain introduced me to VO:OT in high school I was like "holy shit I've played a version of that."

A few notes:
omg this is gorgeous, model 2 model 2 model 2.
It actually controls alright with the analog sticks.
There's an option for either 60fps or the original 57.5 Model 2 frequency. Talk about unexpected choices for the anal.
VR model gallery is pretty cool.
Some of the included replays are pretty nutty.
I wish I could try LAN play.
