Thread: Official Friday the 13th

  1. I haven't seen 1 in a very, very long time. But Jason is F13, so I don't see it having the charm.

EDIT: It's actually interesting how it took 3 movies for Jason to evolve into the icon he is, yet they do away with him in 5? Who's idea was that? Did they not see Haloween 3?

All i think about when I think of part 5 is "rocking tits." So I'm okay with Part 5.

also, I watched that His Name was Jason documentary and it was pretty okay. Didn't provide much insight to the series, and it was a lot of saying the same shit over and over again. "I think Jason is a great character. I loved working on these movies. Jason is a pop culture phenomenon" repeat.

It's actually a solid movie. You get into it knowing that it's Jason's mommy running around.

  5. What are the extra features for 2009?

  6. New Line Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the 2009 remake 'Friday the 13th: Killer Cut' to Blu-ray on June 16th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The title, which includes both the theatrical and extended "killer cut" of the film via seamless branching, will be presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

    Extras for this release include:

    • Terror Trivia Track (BD Exclusive)
    • Hacking Back/Slashing Forward (BD Exclusive)
    • The 7 Best Kills (BD Exclusive)
    • BD-Live
    • Explore the Rebirth of Jason Voorhees
    • Additional Slashed Scenes
    • Digital Copy
The DVD copy will feature either the theatrical version or the extended cut (not both) and only two special features, making the Blu-ray much more appetizing to those fans of the horror series.

  7. Neat-o.

The deluxe editions of parts 1-3 have already been re-released on DVD (with 4-6 coming on the 16th). Sadly, aside from part 1, none of these are uncut. What bullshit.

  8. Ahhh. I thought you meant 4-6 were being released on BRD. I can't wait to pick the remake up.

  9. Sequel news...

Earlier this year, Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th reboot slashed into theaters in February grossing $40 million during its 3-day debut. Jason Voorhees made a comeback in a big way grossing an estimate $90 million worldwide. Shortly thereafter, producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form announced Friday the 13th 2 was going into development with Mark Swift and Damion Shannon returning to write.

While in Chicago on the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Fuller updates ShockTillYouDrop.com on the status of Jason Voorhees' latest outing under their supervision. The producer stresses there is no complete script (yet) and the sequel doesn't even have a greenlight yet. However, if all goes well, there's an August 13, 2010 release date they'd like to aim for along with a few surprises.

"If we're going to do another Friday the 13th we want to present something audiences haven't seen before and one of the things they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow. We just want to bring things they haven't seen before," although that does not mean, "the [entire] movie will not be set in the snow."

Wildstorm Comics published a Friday the 13th tale entitled "Bad Land" last year.

There has also been talk of Platinum Dunes venturing into the realm of 3-D, but that's all matter of cost. Should a sequel take off, it will likely have the same budget as the first film; unless Warner Bros. and New Line were willing to pony up more dough, don't expect to see Jason coming at you in 3-D.

When talking to Fuller, it was palpable that he wants to see improvements made the next time out. "If we were vulnerable in Friday the 13th, I think our vulnerability is people think our kills were not clever enough," he said. "So whatever we need to do to make our kills feel clever in our second film is what we're going to do. I think turning [Jason] into a space-going astronaut isn't the direction we're going to go in. But that's a criticism that goes to my heart. I feel I failed the fans in that those kills were not original enough."

If all goes smoothly, a next Friday the 13th could be rolling by the end of this year.
I have to agree that the kills in the remake weren't all that interesting or creative, aside from maybe the ones in the pre-title sequence. I'm glad that's being addressed. And staging the sequel in winter would be a nice change. There's never been an F13 flick set in snow and sometimes little changes like that can help keep something fresh.
