From what I read, this will supposedly balance itself at level 80. Best guess would be those ret pallies get little boost while everyone else catches up? I don't know, but my friend in pve greens/blues was smoking everyone in duels before ZA. Like, no contest for anyone.
So, for the next month or so, the game is broken. At least PVE is super nerfed and my guild on 15-16 people may attempt some of the content we missed when we disbanded ourselves to shake off the morons.
This would be it, at start of TBC, Hunters were raping pretty much, then things changed at lvl 70 and even at final tiers it changed again (rogues with orange were being outdamage by destro locks spamming just 1 button)... but blizz said they were aware of the burst damage of Ret and they "nerf" them in the way of made the burst damage less but kept their overall dps the same. This wasn't/isn't on life yet as blizz works on 3-4 patches of what currently is on ptr.
Blizz claimed now that if you are skilled regardless of class you should be doing competitive dps no matter what. Although they do say that due to pure dps classes IE rogues/mages/locks/hunters cannot spec for tanking or heal will have a bit of an advantadge on dps output compared to hybrids, but it won't be so big that hybrids will be forced to go heal/tank and leave the dps to real pure dps... so yeah kinda shoots 2 birds with 1 shot, giving skilled players more chance to shine. And if you happened to play with a lot of friends they can be pretty much anyc lass they want and will still contribute to raids. Me likes that idea, hated the fact that raids were so restricted to class (or classes abbilites) rather than player skills.
i think it should work off survivability, like total damage caused before dying. A mage can 2 shot me and I have no problems with that because they're squishy as shit, and in order to keep the fight balanced their dps needs to be that high. a warrior or a pally has more health and far more armour, so they shouldn't be able to output equal dps as a caster or a rogue. Scaling dps so "everyone is equal" kinda fucks alot of people in the arse, like affliction locks, who heavily rely on dot damage, or super squishy mages who have next to no armour and only 7k health.
But those same mages are going to have 16k health in the expansion. This shit is tuned for higher levels.
But those same warriors and pallys will have 25 to 30 K come expansion, nullifying the point.
The game is supposedly tuned for level 80 now, but it is bizarre that nearly every class is capable of the same damage output (Minus Ret Pallys, jesus they are ridiculous) if they spec for it.
Get used to it I suppose, we have no choice. I for one am glad my shadow priest can finally do 100% more damage on his Crits. There was almost no way to get higher than a certain dps point pre patch, now we can finally justify getting decent gear in raids.
