I don't think it has the hardware necessary to run old GB games natively. Maybe it's some sort of emulation?

I don't believe so. I do believe the DS does, in fact, have all the hardware needed to play GBA. The mod is a matter of soldering a jumper.

All the GB/GBC hardware is a part of the GBA hardware, so I think it would have to be there.

  5. I thought that mod was a hoax that would brick a DS.

  6. I don't really know, honestly. It sounds like you know more about it than me.

  7. I don't really know what to add to this thread but my Gameboy memories.

I think I got my Gameboy in 1991 cause I thought it was the coolest shit ever. Super Mario Land and Tetris kept me entertained for forever. Metroid 2 was amazing but I always got lost after defeating the second metroid, hard ass game. Kirby's Dreamland blew my mind. Then when Link's Awakening came out I couldn't believe a game so incredible could be made on Gameboy. I never bought or played many GB games cause so much was garbage.

Gameboy is just a brand, Nintendo will definitely bring it back in some shape. They sorta recycled the Game & Watch design for the design of the DS, afterall. Respect the roots.

Not quite. I believe the GBA and GBA SP included the GBC's processor for the sake of backwards compatibility alone. The GB Micro and NDS don't have it.

And as far as the topic at hand goes, I owned a Game Gear, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, and even a damn GB Player for my Cube, but never really used any of them enough to justify their purchase. The DS is the first handheld I've ever been satisfied with.

  9. Growing up I never could understand the popularity of the original Gameboy the thing was so big and f ugly, the screen blurring made the system unplayable to me, the screen was b & w and I did not think the library was that good. The Turbo Express was my dream portable system back then I never did own it but I played it and wished I did then the Nomad was released it was fantastic but consumed batteries too quickly. It wasn't until the original gba was released that I began to enjoy the gb line the backwards compatibility was a great idea I bought Zelda DX, Metal Gear Solid, Wario land 2, Wario land 3, Tetris, Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons and enjoyed gb classics on a quality screen. When Nintendo released the SP with a lit screen and rechargable battery I became forever hooked today I own a Artic white gba, gba sp, gba sp with the improved backlit screen, two gb micros and a DS.

  10. GameBoy was always about being a portable thing. The games didn't look as good as the other portables, but console games kicked the shit out of those. GB wasn't trying to play to that. A GameBoy was a GameBoy, you didn't expect much out of it, and it was fun. GameGear was a Master System analogue after the Genesis had been out for a bit. Lynx looked bad compared to a lot of NES stuff. They fail.

Klax is still fun for Lynx, though.
