Thread: The Game Boy Era Is Over

  1. Maybe the GBA, not the original Game boy though.

That's not what I said, stupid. I said that if you want to criticize an article about which Lynx games are better than other Lynx games, bringing up non-Lynx games is fucking stupid. The article wasn't even about that.

I love the Lynx, I've stated that already, but even if I didn't, I'm not going to put Gradius for Gameboy on a list of the top 20 Lynx games, so don't be stupid.

You keep repeating that you cannot possibly conceive of others disagreeing with you, when clearly no one here really seems to. You can't seem to wrap your head around the fact that your opinion is not universal, and you're relying on that delusion to carry your argument (or compensate for a lack thereof).

It still doesn't matter what Lynx hardware was capable of, the games looked and usually sounded like shit. And most are just plain tedious to play. End of story.
But they looked and sounded better than the Game Gear or Game Boy. And graphics and sound are hardly the main criteria by which to judge games anyway, so again, this is a really weak point.

As for tedium, that's completely subjective, but the system had its share of quality action and puzzle games. I think it's fair to say that Blue Lightning was the best handheld game of its kind, for example. Chip's Challenge is generally considered one of the better block-pushing puzzlers, too. We could go down the list, but it would get boring.

The system was shit for platformers and some other genres, we all know that, and I'll throw some of the library under the bus, but there ARE some very good games on there.

    What?
The article wasn't about what? Comparing which Lynx games are better than others.
My criticism is that putting 20 questionably enjoyable games on a list and including near Halverson-esque summaries doesn't give them or the system validation.

    Who's being stupid here?

huh?, you seem to disagree with me

    Right. Because the Lynx sux.

    Not really.

Of course its subjective. Yeah, Blue Lightning. That's nice.

    Yeah, but

er, wait, or is that me?

Sorry gotta go, I hear the ice-cream truck outside!!!

  4. Condescend harder, and maybe we'll mistake it for a point.

The article was not designed to convince people who hate the Lynx that it was good. Like the Atari 5200 and Colecovision articles that Levi wrote before it, it was just designed to highlight some of the better games for the system for those that are already interested in it. Not that tricky. It wasn't my format, it's called an assignment. I was not reviewing the games, I was discussing them within the concept of the article.

    sux.
Be a condescending prick all you want, but you or anyone who's been here for as long as you have writes the word "sucks" with an "x" again, I will bite your nose off.

    generic Chipwitch ftw!

the word "sucks" with an "x" again
in the context of Lynx, it is always sux

You are not Joel Seigel. The Lynx neither "sux" nor "rox", X-Men are not "X-Citing" and the Hulk will not "smash" box offices. I know for a fact that that shit is how he got colon cancer. You have been warned.

No, that was from using pink colored toilet paper, and the acids in the dyes rotted his ass out.
I don't use pink toilet paper.

  9. This thread makes my brain hurt.

I've seen a Lynx in person very few times in my life, mainly in a Toys R Us display next to the Game Gear, and Turbo Express in the early 90's. While the graphics had horrible resolution, I was impressed by the hardware sprite scaling and rotation capabilities which were well ahead of its time. It was the only reasonably priced consumer game device that was capable of this until the Sega Saturn in 1994 (not counting the Neo-Geo and 3DO due to the price difference, and the SNES could only scale/rotate backgrounds), and the first handheld with the capability until the Gameboy Advance, a full 12 years later. Too bad the original model ate through batteries as fast as you could install them. Did the redesigned model improve the battery life any?

  10. Yeah, the Lynx II got a bit more battery life (maybe an extra hour), but it was still a battery hog all the same.
