Why is it so hard to find a copy of Seven Samurai in stores, btw?

  2. westerns = awesome, will definitely check this out

Cow, seven samurai is a criterion release, it was oop for about a year and they just came out with an remastered disk set, retails for about 40 bucks. you can find the older release on ebay for cheap. most stores dont carry criterions and if they do its the more mainstream stuff. you can try borders or barnes& noble, or an online site like dvdplanet or deepdiscountdvd

Nothing more can be said about the genre; that doesn't mean I won't watch Crowe being Crowe.

I should clarify that it's not that Unforgiven is just a good Western. It's that the film pulls all the disparate themes of Westerns together and puts them to bed. The lone gunman; the quest for vengeance; the "Western" mode of justice...all of those themes are dealt with (convincingly) by Unforgiven. There is nothing more to be said after Unforgiven (besides yet MORE shootouts and omgcool"Iwantyoulonegunman!" scenes).

The film, more than any other, ever, closed the book on an entire genre.

We can always use another Heist movie (as unbelievably awesome as Heat is), another Gangster movie (as unbelievably awesome as Godfather I and II are), another Buddy-cop movie (as unbelievably awesome as Lethal Weapon is), another Spy movie (as unbelievably awesome as Ronin is)....

Nothing will ever surpass Unforgiven; it closes the book on the entire genre.
I agree that Unforgiven was amazing. But I don't agree that westerns are done. Open Range anyone?

I for one am looking forward to this.

  4. I own Open Range. Its a damn good movie. Not up to snuff with 'Once upon a time in the West' though.

    I'll see this.

  5. Dreamcast

I'll track down Open Range. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong about this. Mostly b/c if there is a western greater than Unforgiven...well, that's one mutha-fuckin' great western.

  6. Personally its on par with Unforgiven. Cosner is a real prick good guy. Its a role that fits him greatly. The shootout is awesome.

  7. I saw this. I was pretty excited for this and it didn't let me down. The only thing was the end

Obviously Wade escapes but I thought Dan was dead and then his eyes moved, and his kid said 'dad?'... was this a sign that he was still alive? I mean even if someone he was alive and had all the patchwork done... he would have died of infection...

Great movie though. Awesome character writing for the good guy / bad guy. I loved the fact they both had something the other wanted and respected each other for it. (Dan had a family, but no money and Wade had tons of money but no family.)

  8. Westerns are awesome. Will be seeing this today.

How does this stack up to the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns?

  9. I didn't like this movie. Skip it IMO. The ending was lame.

It doesn't. Open Range was much cooler.
