Thread: The Mighty Thor

Did someone say Speed Racer? That movie was so good.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

  2. I want to see Thor spinning his hammer while shouting about how he's torn through Hell. I want to see him call down lightning and fry bitches. I want to see him tear through an army single-handedly. THAT'S Thor.

No only the first one. But either way i would give POTC a break because it's a unique property. The director doesn't have a tenured, pre-existing script by a talented artist to go off of.

The reason I mention studios and the Marvel movies specifically as an issue is because of all the nerdgasm stuff going on linking the Ironman movies with other franchises like Hulk, Thor, S.H.I.E.L.D., etc. Previously it would have been hard as nails for studios to understand the idea of a multi-super hero epic movie like an Avengers. They're not sequels, after all. If Fox is making X-Men they're not going to want Thors hammer from Disney or Miramax in their movie. Right? Well Marvel was free to do that anyway. They were also able to come in and make the movie pretty accurate to the comic book pages (something every superhero movie has really been unable to get away with save graphic novels like 300, and Sin City). Sure some concessions were made for the translation of comic to movie, but it was close. I liked IM1. From my experience it's almost always some monkey suited idiot who comes in and ruins good creative - just to put his finger print on the project. I imagine movies are like that times 1000, and don't see how more project like this could be undertaken. We're lucky Marvel got the ball rolling before they were gobbled up.

Not really on topic, but as an aside I read on AICN that Favreau and Downey both hated working on Ironman 2, with Downey just now running through the motions until his contract runs out.

  4. I didn't see Triple H in that trailer, so I'm going to pass.

  5. So, are they almost to the point where they bring everyone together for an Avengers movie? IMDB says 2012, but with this only coming out next year I don't see how the could be true.

That thing will make so much fucking money, btw.

  6. I'm sure they're filming bits of the Avengers where they can.

  7. If Avengers came out right now it might make a mint. But if Thor ends up sucking like it looks like it is going to and if Captain America flops then Avengers could flop on arrival. I loved Iron Man and hated Iron Man 2. The fact that most superhero movies are awful has worn down my desire to see any more.
    But that's just me.

  8. Speed Racer was fucking perfect, just saying.

  9. We'd all go and see a super epic Avengers movie if the entire cast of originals was in it (a superstar cast, no less). Stop fronting.

I don't really understand the need to do an origin movie for every character (well, besides $$$). Take "The Ultimates" as the case-study; Ultimates the comic did a good job streamlining the old funnybook Avengers and setting up the tent-pole characters from scratch very quickly, whole new Iron Man (drunk!), whole new Captain America (oh look here's this soldier that's been in the ice who all our genetics technology is based on! also he is a hard-core 1940s dude), Hulk (id gone wild, basically wants to fuck, kill and/or eat everything), Thor (is he really a god or a tough male nurse using stolen technology? oh man Loki!).

Take care of those three four (forgot Thor), and the supporting cast can go with just straightforward introductions (oh hey we are in a training center! Wasp gets small! Hawkeye is good at hitting targets with whatever you give him! etc etc), just hit the ground running with whatever you want.

Maybe you end up with a three hour movie, but isn't that pretty standard nowadays? Doesn't seem to hurt a movie's business.

Hope they do ~ Infinity Gauntlet ~
