I dislike many things about my current gf, but I do have to say that she is the first responsible girl I have ever dated. She not only has a job, but works hard and excels at it, pays for all her own living expenses, and is totally together in that sense. It makes me look back at some of the other girls I've dated and realize what a disaster they'd have been if I ever ended up marrying one. I'll never get serious with a girl who can't hold a good job and take care of herself (unless she is independently wealthy read:daddy). Sadly this kind of girl is surprisingly rare.

This was another good lesson exposed by this thread.

Separate bank accounts is such a good idea. A joint account for mortgage and joint bills and that's it IMO. And if I get married my future wife works. I don't care if it's just as a server down at the local Applebee's -- she doesn't sit at home all day.

I guess one of my biggest issues with her is how oblivious she is to what I do sometimes. I was so happy when she decided to start working because I was hoping that she could start contributing to the bills of our home. When I had uttered those words she became quite upset and said that the money she was earning was going to be just for her and that she was going to start up her own bank account to put it in. To me I had never heard a more selfish thing in my entire life. I have been supporting her since we got married, paying for rent, bills, and her education. For her to than say that she was not going to contribute money to our family was probably the point at which I realized that I could not be with her anymore.

I believe in most states this is legal grounds to beat your wife with a claw hammer.

I wasn't quoting you. I was quoting The Gas. I read Buttcheek's post and also knowing how some people like to take shots at him I saw it as a personal attack. It was a verbal warning to try and keep this thread on track without actually tossing out a card to do it.

Women can be incredibly fucked up. My last girlfriend was a co-worker, things were pretty good but at the time I dated her I felt like a loser, drove a crappy car, seemed stuck in a shit job. So I decided to reverse things, work my ass off to get out of the runt. So I made the mistake of suggesting a break while I got things together, tried to get back into artwork, sell off some gaming stuff to get a downpayment for a car, etc. Her entire personality changed, every comment was a jab or a threat. After seeing this, I ended it, the result was the same treatment when we were alone but she would tell everyone at work how much she loved me and didn't understand why we couldn't be together. Everyone seemed pissed at me, all the while I spent a entire summer working toward my goals, and slowly started feeling like I was at fault, that it was rude to push her away, and maybe she did love me.

Dead wrong. By Fall, I had a much better paying position and a new car so I tried to get back together with her. By now she was out of her parent's house and rooming with two friends, she taunted and teased that she wanted to get back together while ignoring me when she saw fit. For her birthday I spent 30 hours on a painting, three hours after recieving it she slept with a guy she barely knew, one of many guys she confessed she did that year including while we were together.

It sucked, but the upside was during all this time I did form other friendships, went out alot more, the combo leading me to my wife. I'm sorry to hear what happen Haoh, I know it has to gnaw at you. *-neo

It did while I was there. After I left, all was pretty good. Like I said earlier, I did whatever it took to be a good husband and I'm 100% confident that I did the right things and the problems lie with her. Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.
