Alright so I figure people would like an update on my car, or at least how much I'm enjoying it.
The ride is fairly smooth, I had a problem the first day when I hit 70 it started to do a wierd shaking thing, like I was on some shitty road, but I wasn't so I was a little worried. But that's gone away (I had intended to talk to the dealer about it anyways had it continued). Other than that the ride is wonderful, road noise is nearly non-existant. My dad told me there is about a 250-500 mile break in period for an engine, and that A lead foot or staying the same speed the whole time can reduce the engine life a bit, so I've been super cautious (Nothing wrong with that) about how I accelerate so I haven't tested the 0-60 just yet.
I had the worst luck yesterday, while I was able to pull about 31 MPG on the highway as my average, I then hit about 45 minutes of bumper to bumper traffic which brought my average down to about 25, about equal to the high end city MPG so not a huge deal. Considering I spent it half and half. So I get I think on highway an average of about 29 between 65-75 (MPG is taken what at 55 MPH?)
The onboard computer is absolutely fantastic, it cycles through: Front tire pressure, Back tire pressure, Outside temp and total miles on the car, Miles left on gas, Average MPG, Instant MPG, Trip 1, Trip 2. I love having two different trip meters, one for each gas refil and another for whatever the hell I want.
The Sound System is very good as well. Instead of having a bunch of different specific buttons to control it, you have 6 generic ones that change depending on what you're doing (Like if you wanna set the Equalizer etc) so it reduces a lot of the clutter. I don't know if that's standard now but I certainly didn't have that on my Geo. Gasp, it actually plays burned CDs (Obviously that's not that special but my Geo didn't so it was kind of annoying) so that makes me happy ^.^.
It comes with XM radio, which ultimately I'm not that impressed with but whatever I have 3 months free subscription and then I'll leave it be. As I suspected the lack of Cruise Control doesn't bother me at all.
The car handles well, one thing I was worried about is the terrible terrible parking garage I have at work, and that hasn't been an issue at all. The car isn't too large which makes it easier as well, one challenge would have been going from my tiny geo to a larger car, as I generally have to adjust especially for my dad's seabring.
Also... I love how it looks ^.^.
Seats are comfortable though they are the cloth seats which get a pretty bad rep for being shitty material (but it could just be people who don't know how to get into a car causing rips) so I may just get a seat cover for em. I love the steering wheel too, great grip and it doesn't really get super cold as it's not a cheap plastic wheel like I had in the Geo.
The seatbelts come far from behind (I guess cause it's a coupe) and there's a little holder it's supposed to go through so that I don't have to reach back, but I can't get it back in there so that's kind of annoying >.<. The front window has a nice slant to it as well, so there's a better chance that if a rock hits my window it will deflect off instead of cracking my windshield. I don't know if my car is slanted enough though to deflect deer though.
Overall, I love my new car. And I may go for a pointless hour drive or something later just to enjoy it.
AWD is a big thing, but the cheapest car with that is out of my price range (Impala)
Unless I had gone used.
After dealing with shit ranging from spinning out three times down the highway during a single drive on my way to work (at one point while I was only going about 10-15mph) to not being able to get into my driveway, I vowed to never again buy a car that wasn't AWD or 4WD. Fuck snow.
And I see no issues going used for such a big thing. But unless you've got money to burn or are in love with a specific model I don't see much reason to buy new anyway, even a year behind can save you a ton of cash. When I got my WRX I had been looking at older Audi A4s and Imprezas as they're AWD and can go as low as a couple thousand. Granted, at that price point those are cars you're expecting to turn over in a couple years as they're getting long in the tooth, but they still tend to hold up pretty well.
There's nothing wrong with used, I just was adamant about not doing so this time.
That does remind me of one other problem with the G5, due to the slant on the windshield, if you put down your vanity mirror to block out the sun, you're blocking out like half the windshield if you sit up as high as I do. Though I suppose I could just lower myself.
Now all I need to do is get a helmet..and learn to ride the bike...
