Thread: Crysis

    Thanks to the slice of heaven that is the 8800GT, I can now play the Crysis demo in 1600x1050 on High quality across the board with a nice framerate. With my old 7600GT I had to play on Low, which bit ass.

    I am now glad I blew through Uncharted yesterday before this arrived. Its wow factor would have been crippled had I seen the way Crysis was meant to look (or close to it) first.

    The console-only kids should stop making fun of the Wii, because this game is to Gears of War on 360 what Gears of War is to Mario Galaxy in terms of technical achievement.

  2. You need to calm down too.

  3. My evga 8800GT Superclocked is scheduled for delivery on friday. I refuse to play Crysis on my 1800xt as the demo just mocked it. I can't wait till I get my card and play this gem (and other games of course!).

    I'll give it that.

    One of my friends had a 7600 and had it running ok on Medium, but he was keeping the resolution modest.

    And yeah, this game is freakin' beautiful. I have it running on very high with a few tweaks (some extra features turned on, a couple others that didn't seem to do anything I could see turned off) and it is easily the most gorgeous game ever made. It plays great too. There are a lot of "oh shit" moments that are completely unscripted. Fighting off 40 dudes and two tanks by yourself. Some really great action.

    The nanosuit and the weapon customization are great, too. You get so used to it you feel helpless when you go to play another game.

    I hate to be such a graphics whore, but it really does make me think back to the time when there were tons of PC games that were made exclusively PC without porting in mind that blew away the consoles. Now PC games are like arcade games. They water down the spec so they can port to consoles. It's great to see what they can do uncompromised. Hopefully some of the other CryEngine games are similar. FarCry 2 looks like it's going to be targetting high-end PCs, as well, but you know Ubi...

    I'd love to hear what you found to be the optimal settings when you get a chance.

  7. I'll try to remember the most important things. Set everything to High, and then go into the cfg and edit the settings under [3] (these are the "high" settings.)

    Turn on the following "Very High" effects (I don't remember which go in which cfg. If you can't figure it out I can look it up later):
    r_UsePOM=1
    r_sunshafts=1
    r_colorgrading=1
    q_Renderer=3
    e_water_ocean_fft=1

    These are the most noticable "Very High" effects, and you won't really see any appreciable difference between this and true Very High, but you will get a 20-25% performance boost.

    Also, there are a few extra effects that are only available by editing the cfgs.
    r_UseEdgeAA=1 This will soften the edges of leaves that resist normal AA.
    r_MotionBlur=4 This gives you a much better blurring effect in DX9 (which you should be using)

  8. lol. I knew my video card hard problems (such as the awesome cell shaded effect on the guns in UT3, or Far Cry crashing on me), but Crysis just made it eat itself and throw itself back up on my computer screen. I just ran the demo and at the start menu the demo crashed and now I have colored dots covering my screen. Crysis must be totally badass if it's able to do that.

    Lame ass 7900 GS, it looks like you are getting replaced sooner than I would have hoped...like potentially this weekend.

  9. A 7900 can absolutely play Crysis on Medium-to-high. Your computer is just overheating. Get more fans.

  10. Crysis makes me want to build my system early
