Thread: Crysis

  1. Anyone know how this is supposed to run on the 9000 series?

When I eventually get a system together in Feb it's going to have the 9800GTX and that should rape this, right?

  2. You're asking about a card that isn't even on the market yet and will obviously perform better than anything that is on the market. What do you honestly expect to hear? "No, it will be years before any computer can play Crysis."

  3. I was more expecting to hear something helpful like:

"The 9400 and 9500 can't run it smoothly at maximum detail, but everything above them will."

Obviously I'm assuming the highest 9000 series cards are set, I'm really just wondering how this game is supposed to run on lower end cards. More than anything because I have people asking about shit like that at work, not because I'm getting the lower end ones.

But thanks for your completely unhelpful response. That was good.

How the hell would anyone know how the 9400, 9500, 9800 or 13362XTS will run it? The damn developers may not even know that.

Was it really so damn harmful for me to ask?

On the random chance the someone would have an answer and I'd be able to tell people at work something other than "no one fucking knows", was it really not worth the trouble of asking?

You guys are acting like I wanted to know what the dollar will be worth in 15 years comparative to today. This wasn't some impossible task, someone might have known. The guys I work with and I were looking into what the 6850's really meant in terms of performance compared to say the Q6600 or 6800 a long time before they came out and we did the same thing with DDR2 and DDR3 a few months before it came out. It's not impossible to use math and logic to comprehend hardware that's coming out in the future; it's not as if computers are magic. If you use FSB, Ghz, Mhz and things like latency you can compare two products in theory without having actually used one of them. The specs on the 9800gtx have been released and somewhere out there I bet there's even people who know where the rest of the line stands and that means they could compare them with the current line.

Now, I could have figured out where they stand on a game like WoW, but since Crysis is different in so many ways (such as utilizing all four coures of a Q6600 or the new coming AMD Phenoms) I don't know if there's any variables that I'm not taking into account that would make it actually perform poorer on the newer hardware. And don't anyone try to tell me that's impossible, because if you think a new graphics card must be better than an older one, you've obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

  6. They haven't even announced anything except the 9800GTX and GTS. There's not even a theoretical spec for any lower cards yet, nor is there any indication they'll even be out by February.

  7. All you guys thinking that a recommended spec system would run this game well are in for a rude awakening. I ran the demo on a 8800 GTS at high settings and was getting a little over 30FPS at 1280X1024 with no AA or AS

  8. If it's a stable 30fps is that bad? 30fps is what like 90% of console games run at.

  9. I was barely breaking 20 FPS at medium detail, sub-10 at high. It sucks.

My problem is that I have this super-awesome, big LCD monitor with a >1080p resolution. Which isn't a problem at all, unless I'm dealing with a GPU-killer. If I want anything resembling a stable 30 FPS in Crysis, I have to reduce my resolution by a *lot*. So I'm either stuck with a blurry, scaled-to-fullscreen image or I have to live with some massive black borders.

I guess I could go SLI, but fuck that.

I kinda miss CRT monitors. A little.
