Thread: I gave my two weeks notice

  1. The trip's more important for him as a chef. New York's the food capital of the fucking world and he shouldn't have been running the fucking kitchen of a huge ass Hilton hotel by himself with less than 1 year of experience anyway. The fact that he did it and managed is because he's great at being a chef and cooking. It's time for them to pay a head chef to do it or lose customers.

    sound fucking advice. seriously.

[quote=Konketsu;1063927460]Everyone has made good points and good counterpoints. However, you gave them your two week notice so they were fully aware of when your last day was going to be. It is not your fault that the management failed at finding a replacement or finding someone to fill those shifts that they are almost obliging you to work.

this is corporate America imo, and fucking bs also.

I'd say, don't burn your bridges. Besides, 2 weeks notice is kind of shitty in the restaurant world especially with a cook. Be the bigger person.
    Bull. Shit.

2 weeks notice in the restaurant world is FABOLOUS! Tons of ppl just walk (especially cooks!).

You gave your 2 weeks...you've got other plans at stake...it's THEIR job to find a replacement for you (or suck it up; like they couldn't get another cook to cover?)...

    You're GTG imo.

  4. This is why I'm confused. Either jonas is lying about how much notice he really gave or these guys really can't run a business.

And he's not gonna' learn a goddamn thing eating at some bullshit like Mesa Grill and sticking his nose up at a place like Lupa because they serve interesting cuts of meat.
    Boo, Hiss.

  7. Gotcha.

  8. He has like 8 months working experience and was running a kitchen for like 300 rooms and a banquet hall all by himself. He does have schooling from a great school but that's a bit much. Hire an experienced head chef you lazy fucks.

It's not like he can't just go to the other 6 Mario restaurants in NYC. I think he's thinking more about his girlfriend's palette than his own.

It's my understanding that a future employer can ask yes/no questions (almost like a cross-examination in court).

Maybe it's because I lost my job a few months ago and realized the HUGE importance of having a good reference; I suggest gutting it out on your last shift - as much as it sucks and much to the shegrin of other TNLers.

I guess look at this way - you may never want to work for that company again, but it's your name and reputation "at stake" so to say, and by acting like a professional, I'll guarantee you that your karma and the experience at your future employer will be better off.

Man it sucks soundling like an actual adult (especially on TNL), but I've witnessed other people (and myself) falter on these types of experiences becuase I had a "fuck it" attitude; which really didn't help in the long run.
This is the truth. Having a "fuck it, they suck I don't give a damn" attitude only works when you're the one holding the cards. Talk to your boss, let him know the situation, see if you can work things out with him first. If not, then just work the extra couple of days, you'll get money out of it anyway.

And in the future, learn from this. When leaving a job I give 3 weeks notice - now you're going above and beyond in terms of giving your employer a chance to replace you - and I name a specific date that will be my last day. They have no case if they try to demand that you work after that.

I hope you're at least grateful.
