I agree, but I read a review from this site ( http://www.vc-reviews.com/review/619/startropics.php ) and it said this at the end of the review:
One interesting tidbit - The original game came packaged with the actual invitation from Dr. Jones to come to the tropics. This letter is actually NEEDED later in the game, as you must dip it in water to reveal a secret code which you need in order to progress. Nintendo have got around this quirk by including an animation within the digital manual. You click the page which dips it in the bucket of water and you get the code.
Don't quote me on the broken english.I just copy and pasted the paragraph from the site that I linked. I do like the thought of the digital equivalent of the water dipping though.
Me too! I remember getting to that part at about 2 in the morning and the light bulb going on. I hustled to the kitchen sink and wet the paper and got the code. It was a super cool moment in gaming for me.
~ I know! ~
Wait, you're being sarcastic.

Then I envy them. I actually passed a tumbleweed last night. I will compose digital instruction manuals with simulated water-dipping to remedy this.
