Yes, it should be able to, if it literally has the best gameplay ever and does everything else right, like online support, well designed achievements, etc. Otherwise, they are selling me a GameCube game for $50 in 2009 and can fuck themselves.

I should have said PS2 instead of GameCube. When was the last $50 PS2 game?

I get that you're talking tech rather than age, but there hasn't been a new Gamecube game in four years. You also seem to think that game creation involves coming up with an idea, slapping on the prettiest coat of graphics possible, and sitting back while the world basks in the glory of your creation's booty. If that was true then development time and cost would be halved on every game created, easily.
Sorry, I don't give A's for effort. 2009 games should look like 2009 games. I don't give a fuck how long they were in development. I should (and possibly could) be playing this game on my iPhone for $4.99, not on the Wii for $49.99.

Single-player games don't need online and achievements are less of a feature than a sound test to me.

You aren't buying it and never will, so they aren't selling it to you. They wouldn't mind if you joined in, but you aren't the target market for this kind of thing. Gamers who like video games rather than feature lists are the market, so you can stop acting like XSEED is trying to rip $50 out of your wallet.
