Thread: 9 Year-old Chinese kid "bored" in College

  1. #61
I've lately found myself having conversations about the economy when I'm hanging out with friends.

  2. I took an online IQ test once and got like a 170. I think they're all bullshit. I was tested when I was a kid, I'm smart, but I ain't that fucking smart.

edit: I just took another one and got a 145 (although I'd probably do better if I didn't take it at 3 in the morning, long after I should have been in bed), which is more in line with my real IQ, but I still don't trust them. The one I took when I was kid was really long and had a bunch of different types of problems and tests. I don't think a 15 minute list of true/false questions is either a large enough sample size or a broad enough set of problems to really determine anything.

There's a bunch of problems with using IQ as a measure of intelligence anyway.

  3. I was a genius up until about 8-9 when I started to go all Bobby Fischer. Unfortunately it hasn't stopped getting worse and I'll probably end up dead from it.
    Boo, Hiss.

  4. My internet IQ weiner is thiiiiiiiiiis big.

  5. There's a distinct difference between raw intelligence and good decision making ability. The majority of the smartest people I knew in college in terms of pure raw intelligence smoked their ass out of school before sophmore year, partied their asses off, took finals after dropping a few tabs, etc. This wasn't a major deviation from their lifestyle in high school, so it wasn't due to any corruption the additional freedom of college life provided them with. Of course, those who didn't bomb out went on to become NASA engineers, high level portfolio managers, economists, and so on. The best way I can explain it is that sometimes you can be too smart for your own good. You either become disinterested more easily, or you fall back too much on your intelligence to the point that you neglect hard work, discipline, motivation, and other necessary traits to thrive in a competitive, ever-changing environment. Personally, I'm a smart guy, but nothing extraordinary in terms of IQ testing, GPA, SAT, ACT, GMAT, etc. The key is to find something you enjoy in life which encourages you to lever your intelligence rather than forcing you to tap into it.

So am I. I'm not smart by all means but a LOT of common sense goes a long way.

I could probably improve my grammar if I cared and put time into it.

To this day I don't really understand why I spell so poorly. Everyone says you pick it up from reading. But I read all the time, and read on a fairly high level, but I do not improve. I read text books, books, novels, rpgs, and tons of stuff on the internet, but I still suck at it.

    Two possibilities come to mind.

    1) I really am brain damaged. I was born early and that part of my brain may have never fully developed.

    2) It may be a by product of my ability to organize and simplify information. That is why I excel in math and science. I'm very good at taking a complex system, stripping it to its bones, learning it and applying it. There is a good chance I'm doing this to how I spell words. I try to group words that sound alike together, despite their different spellings. I've also tried to simplify things by combining my writing ability with my speaking ability, which introduces all sorts of errors.

and lol at all of you thinking about going for the easy reply to this. Bastards.
Stop talking about yourself all the time.
