Thread: 9 Year-old Chinese kid "bored" in College

  1. It takes a couple of hours and is split into multiple mini tests. Some of it is like the Mensa practice test, but you get a ridiculously short time limit for that part so that it is extremely unlikely you will finish and get any big percentage of it right. But if you feel you aced that part, you can leave early and still get accepted.

There is one little vocabulary part and one little math part. You are also read a story and asked about it much later in the session. But the best tests may be the ones that present you with little drawings and ask you to find another item that is related. They are nothing, nothing like the practice tests or any of the I.Q. tests I have seen before. These are familiar items, not the shapes and lines you usually see in these tests, and a couple of the questions were major head scratchers. You pretty much either are good at spotting the patterns at a breakneck pace or you aren't. There is little or no way to learn to be good at it.

    That about sums it up.

Just because you were lazy in school, or didn't pay attention and got bored, doesn't mean you were a genius. Believe me I was the same way, and while I was smarter than most I certainly was not a genius.

I ain't saying Josh ain't, (he probably is, demeanor is the telling sign of IQ, my above line is directed a bit more at Gohron) and I've known for awhile Nick is. But Genius is rare for a reason. Mostly so we don't kill ourselves with the depression that comes with that kind of capacity for knowledge.

In my 3 IQ tests I scored an average of 143, which means nothing of course because the scores are all on completely different scales. I was "approaching genius" on all 3 though, so thats it. Somewhere in the top 5%, well above average.

I'd assume most of this board lies somewhere in there. I highly doubt more than 2 or 3 people are in the top .01%, but we most certainly are smarter than 99% of the themed message boards out there, so take it as a compliment.

    Just saying...

also. I want to take the test too. information please.
You would come out of retirement to do lines if your neighbor had some, don't front.

  4. IQ scores aren't worth shit.

I know people who fix cars who exhibit "genius" by fixing things you can't even comprehend and I know people who deal with activities of high level corporations that you can't fathom that are "below average".

If you score a 143 and can't change your own sparkplug, are you really a "genius"?

    Application not potential, noobs.

And before one of you mensa drones start spouting off about Einstein, let me remind you that his calling card is about to be revoked by the string theory.

    Thomas Edison= Genius

Albert Einstein= Mathmatics skills with a good imagination, and don't say "OMG NUCLEAR WEAPONZ" because he came on the tail end of that to. If you write a story and I pick it up, check your grammar, and add a period or two is that my creation or yours?

  5. The whole measurement is the ability to absorb knowledge, we all know and no one is fronting here. Simply clarifying.

Also "success" is the measurement of practical application of knowledge. We know. Make a thread about success.

Take the hostility to the NFL thread, where it belongs.

  6. What hostility? I was simply commenting on how easily everybody throws out the g word.

I hope you all are Edison's, the world needs about a million of you right now.

  7. The guy with the 143 I.Q. can probably learn to handle sparkplugs pretty easily. Don't be a genius hater.

O rly? How about the simple binding of shoelaces?

  9. If I were stuck on a desert island and I could have the help of a grease monkey, a guy in a monkey suit, or a genius - all other things being equal - I'd go with the smart one. If you met some dysfunctional people with high I.Qs and you think we're all like that, let me tell you some stories about mechanics and C.E.O.'s I've known.

  10. See that's the problem, people who seem to think they have high IQ's underestimate their opponents. Who is to say that mine doesn't blow yours out of the water?

I'll take the mechanic to fix the boat, see mensa sucks.

Or whichever one has a vag
