Thread: Finished Ecco DOTF this weekend *spoilers*

  1. Well, thanks you guys!

Fu, your "tomb" description is dead on - especially where the Man's Nightmare levels are concerned. I also mistakenly stumbled upon the Dolphin Soccer "secret" - what a cool surprise that was. And you're right - not for the impatient...not in the least. If I hadn't taken my time, I may have given up long ago, never discovering how surreal it was.

Quinn, you also hit the nail on the head: definitely a top experience that happened to also be a game...reminded me a lot of ICO in that way. Convincing environments, indeed. And yeah, I'm definitely proud to have gone on that adventure. How many other platformers sport a main character with no hands or feet? Oh, and best of luck with MDK2 - it's a tough nut to crack indeed; never frustrating, constantly rewarding...much like Ecco. If you beat Ecco in a month (nice going!) you'll tackle MDK2 with, er, minor difficulty.

  2. Minor flaws aside, Ecco has a great atmosphere which is essential to get me into a 3D adventure game. The PS2 version which is identical to the DC version has gotten some medicore reviews, I guess on a system with a full plate this is a game that will get passed over much like REZ. *-neo

  3. *shakes fist at MDK2*

... damn you and your ungodly challenge, and lack of check-points!

  4. Hhe, Im just checkin Bio. It was odd that they were both posted nearly the same time, and I know Cafeman is or was registered at these boards at one point.

At any rate I had beaten this game damn near straight through. As far as challenge goes, its very difficult for those that lack patience. I have the patience of... I cant think of a witty analogy, I'll just say I have very little. At any rate, when I beat it, I would just go back to certain levels and swim around. That to me, means they created a beautiful, convincing, and compelling world. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was in the first few levels. When the humans took over, those levels gave me the creeps.

I would love to see a sequal that fixes the problems I had with this game. The biggest being the lack of direction that every talks about. I cant tell you how long it took me to figure out certain parts of hanging waters. In the mean time, I will try to beat it all over again. I let a friend borrow my DC and he erased my Ecco and Shenmue saves.... the pain. ANY other games he could have erased but those.

  5. One of the best games ever !!!

I believe if you are talking best games of all time, you have to mention Ecco. I'm about half way through the game and I firmly believe that. Ecco and Virtual On are probably the most unjustly overlooked games ever. I just hope SEGA will grace us with a sequel.
There's room for only one Snake and one BIG BOSS !!!!

  6. mebbe ill pick up ecco again since i originally had it when i didnt have my vga box. i thought it looked great thru regular composite...cant imagine what it'll look like on my monitor.

That's right, you can't. ^_^ Ecco through the VGA looks like an absolute dream, simply stunning. Especially through the VGA, Ecco satands as one of the most beautiful games ever made. Amazing stuff.

BTW, was my info bad, or did I hear that there was a new Ecco in the works that was shown briefly at E3???

  8. Quinn, if you're talking about something called "Ecco the Dolphin Renaissance" I think that was on some fake list someone made up.

But if there was something else that was genuine, I didn't hear about it (which doesn't mean there isn't something new, mind you).
