Alternatively, if you don't want to do it by sucking, you can get it by essence spamming with the Kusari-Gama on the beetles in the South America, and simultaneously rack up about 200,000 essence.
Essence spamming? I assume that's where you just keep using the essence from a kill to perform an UT on another group, then use their using to do another UT on the next group. In the first game I remember doing huge combos with the wood nunchaku on some bone dragon that you could respawn quickly.
I'm loving this game. Started late last night and I'm on chapter 7 now.
I'm absolutely loving the dual swords and haven't even bothered to learn a single button combo. I love mashing.
The only thing that has really annoyed me so far is projectiles during battles. I break off to kill archers just because they annoy the shit out of me. Also, water sucks. But water sucks in every game. Ever.
Started a week later than you guys, so I'm only up to Chapter 5. Which of the weapons after powering them up do you guys enjoy using? I think the Lunar Staff at Level 3 is awesome, and I'm starting to appreciate Level 3 two swords. Not a fan of the talons, so I didn't bother powering those up. How's Level 3 Kusari-Gama and Level 3 tonfas?
I haven't really explored the weapons that well, on my second playthrough and just using the Dragon Sword for now. But what I gleaned so far:
The staff is definitely my go-to weapon for any sort of crowd control situation, but just really strong on single enemies as well...lacks an air dash, and the insta-UT options are kinda awkward for me, but the effectiveness of the UT makes up for it. Seems really easy to stun enemies.
I don't care for the Scythe, but its air combo is pure cheese on certain bosses. There's nothing really wrong with it...plays pretty much like the axe/daigoro from NG1. Sucky UT though, just a big single hit.
After the staff, the 2x Swords was my preferred weapon. Lacks the triple Flying Swallow of the DS, but seems better in almost any other way. Its UT will seek new targets much better than the DS, and it seems to stun more frequently.
Tonfas are great, IMO. Same style of play as the Flails, but the ability to cancel any combo with a special dash opens up some cool possibilities and defensive options. I don't remember if it has a very good "leg chop" attack though (like the DS xxy->y). There's a lot of neat tricks in the movelist too, but some are unorthodox so I wouldn't consider it very spammable.
The other weapons I only used periodically, not much to say yet. I think the Claws have some great potential, however, because so many of the strings make Ryu teleport around, which seems like a great way to avoid incoming projectiles and back attacks. Also, when you get the windmill shuriken, remember that you can charge it up too, making for some sweet Krull-esque multi-kill combo finishers.
All of the weapons have quite a bit of pros and very few cons, honestly. It just comes down to experience. I would recommend sitting down on normal (or easy mode) and just toying with them. They all have multiple throws and most of them have multiple UTs as well. They are also all very different.
The fan service on the flails is just ridiculous now. That fucking jump kick with several legs to the stomach is godly, not to mention his AIR SUPERIORITY.
The Kusari-Gama is my favorite weapon according to XBOX Live. I love the piledrivers, the instant decaps and the UT it has.
The double swords are the shit, but not too varied from what we saw before. The Lunar is much improved. The Claws generally turn minced meat out of any regular fiend or ninja.
The Scythe is absolutely freaking godly, it has so many throws and is so overpowered it's ridiculous. The free form with the Tonfas is true Bruce Lee shit. Not like the flails claimed to be in the first game, but actually letting you brake combos like Garou:MOTW at any moment.
Basically, you probably won't see every move in the game on your first play through. I still can't pull off the Underworld Drop with the Blade of the Archfiend
