Positives: Langs looked great.
Negatives: The rest of the team looked terrible.
For the first time in my LIFE I am embarassed to wear a Devils jersey. I can't imagine how you Rags fans have lived for the past 12 years.
Last year is over and the two did exactly the same thing in the playoffs. Who gives a shit about "snatching the division"? Nobody cares.
The Devils are going nowhere. Get used to whining about officiating and hovering around .500, that's all you have to look forward to.
The Rangers are 7-7-1 against everyone but the Devils. They have the same system and allegedly got much better in the offseason. Not only will the Devils finish ahead of the Rangers, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rangers miss the playoffs. The Rangers have shown no ability to win when it matters against anyone but an Atlanta team that folded like a lawnchair. You can spot a fan of a terrible franchise by seeing how excited they get a month into the season.
The officiating has sucked all over the league all year. Don't try to tell me I've been biased in my whining. And the sentiment has been echoed through all the fans AND announcers throughout the league, from all the games I've seen, and I watch as many as I can.
The stats are pretty much even for this game..powerplays, shots on goal, Devils edged the Rangers in scoring chances....
Devils disadvantaged in hits (Duh, no defense.) AND blocked shots. (Duh, no defense.)
And goaltending. Marty let two softies in and they were the difference. Having a defenseman guarding the crease on the second softie would have been some kind of a boon, but oh wait, we have no defense.
Great quote from the NJDevs forums.

Right. The Rangers are also 7-1 in their last 8 and .800 at home. Like your early season Devil excuse, the Rangers needed time to play together to come together as a team. We're nearly 1/4 the way through the season and the Rangers biggest weakness in your daunting seasonal forecast, their defense, is ranked #1 in the league. Equally, my forecast calling for Lundqvist to be the best goalie in the division isn't even arguable at this point. They are coming together, despite being down 3 starters (Avery, Malik, Straka) for much of the season.
The Rangers have shown the ability to beat the team that you consider to be their strongest competition, 3 times, without a loss. If that's not showing an "ability to win" then I don't know what does. I'm throwing out the first few games of the season for both teams and the Rangers are looking much, much better and the Devils are looking the same or worse. Keep thinking that it's 2002, because it isn't.
Watch the game on MSG for an entirely different viewpoint on today's game.
(Edit) - And I'm not defending the officiating, by any means, but you and Yoshi are all about bitching the obvious calls/non-calls on your team without acknowledging that the same shit is happening to the other team.
(Edit Again) - At least your realistic about your team. Your alter-ego is making believe that this is the same Devils team that we see every year, despite missing key players, having a new coach, and a goalie who is getting old (like Hasek) before your eyes.

So, in summary, you're measuring the Rangers in the midst of a hot streak against the Devils, who have yet to get hot. And they are still only 5 points apart, all head-to-head. If the Rangers are only five points better after a 7-1 streak than a team whose goalie has a save % that isn't in the top 30, where will they be when Brodeur shows up? And you're full of shit if you think he's going from a Vezina to off the map in a year.
