They were all great though. I never liked Cujo, however.

There are no rules, only consequences.

  2. I will always heart Cujo.

He was amazing in the Leafs' playoff runs from 98 to 01.

I'd consider Belfour, but wouldn't pick him. Hasek is the most overrated player ever in the NHL. The best goalie torch went directly from Roy to Brodeur, and only the timing is debatable. I still can't understand how the GMs blew the Vezina voting that many times.

  4. yeah i <3 Eddie as much as anybody but his back and penchant to ALWAYS drop to his knees keeps him out of any "dependable" goalie list for me.

i certainly don't equate a cup win with a goalie being great. you have guys like Thomas, Dafoe, Hackett and Thibault (just using beantown and chicago since i follow them most) that never won cups....hell never had "winning" seasons a lot of times. but you mean to tell me that Gerber, Ward or Anaheims goalies the past couple years that cups were won are better than the guys i listed?

Not ever goalie who wins is clutch, but no goalie who doesn't win is. We're talking about Hall of Famers, and you're bringing up Jeff Hackett? Are you fucking kidding me?

i was bringing up guys who played on terrible teams and were much better than their records indicate. since winning a cup has a lot to do with a winning record i figured this was relevant. you made it sound like if a goalie doesn't win a cup he's not in the upper tier. it takes more than a goalie to win games.

Obviously. Players in every sport and at every position benefit or suffer in part because of their teams. That said, perhaps through no fault of their own, those guys you named were not great. Heroes are made in the playoffs. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the opportunity to be one.

i can agree with the not heroes part but you can't honestly say none of them were great. unless you have a different meaning than i do or im misunderstanding. all of them had losing seasons while having remarkably high save percentages and low goals against averages (sometimes, yes even above Brodeur/Roy). just sucked that their teams didn't score.

Save % is the most overrated stat in hockey. Your job as a goalie is to give up less than your counterpart. I'd argue that the absolute most important state for goalies is shutouts, because your team cannot possibly lose when you pitch one.
