    Here's today's catch:

Cantaloupe that smells better than a freshly showered virgin: $1.50
    4.4 oz blueberries: $2.00
Decent amount of beautiful okra: $2.00
1.5-2 lb bag purple beans (like green beans, but purple): $2.00
Three good sized oranges: $.56, which was what I had left in my pocket.

It's easy to spend a lot of money there, because everything looks and smells delicious. I usually just bring what I plan on spending. The only bad part is I have to work until eight the next three nights, so I can't cook for anyone.
You need to make some muffins with those blueberries!

Good idea... I already ate about a third of them. I can't wait to dig into that cantaloupe after work tonight.

  3. Hey, anybody know another way to season fajitas besides using the store bought fajita seasoning? I'm bored with that stuff.

  5. Wanted to give a shout out to icarus, I took some people to PF's last night before we watched Indiana Jones 4.

The food was excellent man, as usual, your franchise has it right.

    The movie was shitty

Just made a nice homey main dish: Bean and cabbage soup with ham.
-I bought a pound of mixed dry beans, and cooked them according to the quick-soak method.

While they were soaking, I started simmering four ham hocks in water.
-When the beans were done soaking and rinsed, I dumped the small pot of hocks and water into the big pot of beans, and added some more water.
-About 30 minutes before the beans were done, I sauteed an onion, few cloves of garlic, and a half head of cabbage; threw it in the big pot.
-When the beans were done, I pulled out the hocks, cut all the meat off of them and fine diced it, discarded the fat, and returned to the pot.
    -Salt and pepper to taste.

Why hocks? The hocks give the liquid a nice, but not overpowering smoky flavor. The bones and connective tissue make all the difference in the broth. Salt pork and bacon both make it hard to separate the fatty tissue from the meat, and since they both have a lot of salt already, they make controlling its content a lot more difficult.

Can you get smoked ham hocks, neck bones, jowels, etc. in other parts of the country, or are they mostly a southern thing? I've been meaning to try oxtails for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it.

You make me ashamed that I've been so lazy these past couple of Friday mornings... I've been craving to go to the Farmer's Market. I usually pick up some great fruit, a bouquet of flowers and a loaf of freshly baked Jewish rye bread. No excuses! I'm definitely going to go this Friday .
