I misinterpreted the statement. My fault.

I'm going to touch up the resume again tomorrow, I almost don't even want to put this place on here.

You mean the guys picking the oranges and mowing lawns aren't getting 401k plans?

I'm Mexican, I can say these things.

  3. Sorry I was not clear. Yeah the way you explained it the company seems shady. I'd still fight for the OT though.

edit: You're mexican? Crap forget what I said ...

    Kidding.

I"m not a very confrontational person, but still, $100 right now for me is a week of gas and a bill paid. I don't know what's going on with the other employees.

Nor am I. But talk to the owner. Tell him I quit, but I want my OT.

I saw the ad through craigslist and emailed them my resume. I got a call the same day and went through a 30 minute surprise phone interview.

I went in for the interview at 11am sharp. I started off by meeting the head IT guy. He asked me some questions and turns out I was going to be building a computer for them as a test. Ok, sure. I waited some more, talked to some other people, and then finally got to meet the boss. I left like 4 or 5pm.

A few days later they ask me to come back again. Surely, this isn't going to take long. I'm there again for another five hours. A lot more talking and waiting and I build them another computer.

All in all, the entire interview process took like ten hours of my life. Yeah, they took advantage off all the candidates. I was in a position where I really needed the money, so I kind of just clenched my teeth and accepted the position.

I started work, and basically it felt like they threw 20 manuals in my face and said "learn it, support it."

Out of nowhere I was taking phone calls for stuff I've never worked with before. I wasn't able to bring up the issue until the boss came back from out of town. I brought it up and the issue seems to like it's going to be resolved now.

I have one of their computers at home with me for training, but I really shouldn't have to do that, should I?

And then there is the overtime.
Welcome to the IT industry, dude. You don't own your life anymore. Hope you don't like sleep.

Still, if you think you can get a better deal somewhere else, grab it. You're in business for yourself, not for them. But don't quit until:

    A) you actually have another job in hand. Unemployment is more grief than getting paid for a bad job for a few weeks.

    B) you get the money they owe you! It's waaay harder to get it out of them if you're not actually working there with daily access to the payroll/HR people. If you've already mentally got one foot out the door, you don't need to have any qualms about playing hardball with them and sticking up for your rights. The only leverage they have is withholding future promotions (which you don't care about anyway) or threatening to fire you (which they can't do if they're in the wrong or it'll end up costing them a shitload). And gettng fired is the best of both worlds anyway, because they'll likely have to give you some sort of severance. You quit, they get off cheap.

Yeah bro, he's been able to afford cheeseburgers for quite awhile now.

Also it's by law you have to get time and a half over 40 hours unless it's that bullshit Bush signed a few years ago. Check everything under this and find out what your position classifies as.
