Thread: I have a question about The Terminator series

  1. I suppose if they interfered too much, then Skynet would've never gone online and we would've spent all our military strength stopping robots from the future from coming back in time and taking our jobs.

    (edit: What Dole said.)

  2. Well I've seen the idea from the series that Terminators could be anyone at any place. Suppose a few like we've seen from the movies were out to affect events directly, but others with the clear directive to NOT directly interfere and shape what will become skynet's future were left undetected? That could've also fit in with Dole's "what if" scenario where the Skynet program would have been affected by an outside source to run along with what was supposed to happen.

Besides, if Skynet sends back an army to take over, said army might put into motion a chain of events that could prevent the creation of Skynet itself, therefore creating a paradox. If Skynet didn't exist, then it couldn't have sent back the army, but it did, and so on. I mean, look what happened when Skynet sent back the original Terminator- just like John Connor did with Kyle Reese, Skynet sent back a warrior that ended up becoming it's father (it's CPU was recovered by Cyberdyne and used to create Skynet).
And of course that CPU with the T-800 were destroyed, but skynet somehow managed to still send another model back and explain that the future was only DELAYED.

not set my ass. Either it was T3's future that sent one back or something else wasn't checked up on.

I'm sure Skynet told the T-800 not to fuck with the timeline, other than killing Sarah Connor. But shit happens, ya know? I mean, it's not like Skynet said "Hey, Arnie, do me a favor and use my Time Displacement shit to go back to 1984 and wack some bitch named Sarah Connor. But while you're at it, make sure you chase her into this factory called Cyberdyne at 2107 Johnson Street and get yourself crushed in a hydraulic press. But make sure your CPU is okay so the guys that own the factory can study it and get my ass online a few years down the road, kthx."

Either that, or it was a different writing/directing team that came up with a pretty weak-ass premise for a sequel.

This is actually how I feel about T2. It's a great action film, but not a classic like T1, which is by far Cameron's best work imo.

For T2 - In T1, the arm was not and the alloy and the chip inside the arm; got the scientists all excited, They then tried to make technology using the arm as the basis. That's why they were still able to send more.

For T3 - In T2, the arm again was left behind, it was during the fight with the T1000. Remember when Arnie had to rip his arm off, cause it was stuck in the gears? Again another piece of technology left behind.

As I recall, the chip was inside the head casing when it was crushed, but they managed to salvage a portion of it which was able to be used for research. As for the arm, I dunno if it's just advanced hydraulics and whatnot, but I doubt it's anything beyond just a few circuits.

I was just thinking about that. Maybe some worker found that behind the gears and hid it behind his porn stash.

If you remember in T2. when they take out the two glass jars there is a microchip in the arm.

Or he found it and showed it too the police who then confiscated it and blamm-o ... Cyberdyne reincarnated!

Nooooo, one glass jar had the CPU:

...and the other had just an arm.
