They don't - they throw a hardcore bone (eh? eh?) every once and while hoping it'll keep the long standing fanbase happy, then they make games the rest of the world (read: the super majority) wants to play. So far it's been way more successful for them than developing strictly for the hardcore base. The only hardcore base that even cares about their efforts are the Nintendo fans anyway , and we've seen where that percentage gets them with the N64 and GameCube. So they've gone from profiting off a margin of a niche to getting a shit ton of money for making games that have no traditional "game" in them that normal folks eat up.
Does that mean it's ok for them to do it? For their interests, YES. For ours, not so much. Then again I'm of the mindset that more and more I want to have fun with less and less time commitment needed to be attached. So I do play MarioKart, Wii Sports, Galaxy and play the more traditional stuff that requires more involvement, skill and/or time.
So it tears two ways for me. I love to see the breadth of gaming and its audience expand even if people believe it ruins the hobby. But I'm also sorely sad that a game as fantastic as Mario Galaxy gets second billing to things that have far less sophistication to their gameplay. Nintendo used to be the company Mario built, but now projects an image of the Wii and its franchises.
(Then again, I could also tirade on how Mario Galaxy is more of a videogame than Gears, Resistance, BioShock, and its ilk could ever be, but that's for another discussion)
I wish they only made games like Galaxy, and that they looked better on my widescreen HDTV.
So basically I wish Nintendo made games for MS.

This doesn't make sense. They are all equally qualifying of the term "video game" whether you like them or not. Or did you mean Mario Galaxy is a better video game? In that case it's subjective and I would agree with it although Bioshock isn't far behind.Originally Posted by Hero
Hero, sit down for a second, now I say this as your friend. Stop being a tool, Nintendo doesn't love you, and they aren't your friend. Their bottom line does not effect you one way or the other, stop defending their bullshit.
I would LOVE to hear this.(Then again, I could also tirade on how Mario Galaxy is more of a videogame than Gears, Resistance, BioShock, and its ilk could ever be, but that's for another discussion)
