I've spent over 5 hours on some of the more complicated ones. The moogle was about 20 minutes, Vivi about 40. Depends on how much detail I put into it and if I'm trying to goof off on the Internet at the same time.

I made this for my boyfriend's birthday card, and put a little party hat on his head (not shown, as I made it later). It came out very well!
