WTF is this? (Mugen)

Has anyone ever seen this? I stumbled on it while looking for Metal Slug speed runs. It looks like it must be a cracked version of Marvel Vs. Capcom, but if that's the case, I wanna know how the hell it was done, what it's running on (arcade, mame, whatever), and what I need to make it happen. Looks like I would have a blast with this.

MUGEN is a 2d fighting fan's dream application. It's been around for 7 years but the group that developed it stopped around 2001~2002. People have been ripping sprites from various 2d games and "porting" it to the MUGEN engine and there are hundreds of fighters out there. The biggest contributors come from Japan, the US and Brazil. There's a billion other youtube videos of it.

so do you have to import everything yourself and then create all the moves and all that? seems like that could get pretty complicated.

MUGEN is available for Windows, Linux and Xbox and can run pretty well on a Pentium II system or higher. The basics is to download the MUGEN application (WinMugen) and then you have to scour the intarwebs for characters and stages. The files are usually zipped or RARed and you place these files in the appropriate folder. You can edit the text files to add the characters into MUGEN or get a helper application like Mugen Configurator (the language is portugese by default but you can load the english language pack)--you need to put a little work into it. Alternatively you can find various torrents where everything is preconfigured along with hundreds of characters and you just run the application. You don't have to edit character moves unless you want to create a character yourself.

The best MUGEN fight ever was Homer Simpson versus Sephiroth, Sephy being a completely original sprite.

In MUGEN there is a 2 VS 2 Mode that my friend and I play like every week. It's basically like Guilty Gear Isuka (4 player simultaneous) us versus 2 ai. One of the best originally created characters for MUGEN is Sandman in the style of Marvel Superheroes/VS. Here he is fighting a Superman based on the Magneto sprite:



The Sandman creator also created an original Thor and Wonder Woman.

It's just weird, tho they look like orginal sprites they are just painted over old sprites.... Superman is using Magneto's sprite, Wonder Woman Psylocke and Thor is Colossus.
