Thread: Minority Report + impressions

  1. I can't say that I'm looking forward to it for any one reason, but my curiousity has been peeked cuz I've been hearing about it for the past 8 months or so. At the very least there should be some good action scenes.

... the cops in the jet packs... the way they flew looked stupid... ahhh... can't explain it very well...

... the cars that go up buildings and stuff look pretty damn sweet though

  3. I think it looks great, and AI was a masterpiece.

  4. If anyone goes to see it today, post the impressions here, k?

  5. oops, I actually saw the sneak preview on tuesday, and I would have posted this before if not for the fact that I don't come to cinemania too often....anwyay, I must say, I saw the movie and afterwards I couldn't sleep thinking about how cool it was...

    Story: 8

Really, really cool. By now you know the basic plot, a branch of law enforcement called "Pre-crime" uses oracles to see the future crimes, and arrests the perps accordingly. I won't give too much away, but if ever a movie used psychics the right (and believeable way), this is it. Classic Spielberg one-liners and for once, very well-drawn and developed characters. I cared about all of them, there were no annoying characters (not even ton cruise's little boy). Great Story.

    Action scenes: 8

the jet-packs, sick-stix, and stun guns are all really cool; i would love to see a game using this stuff. The fighting is classic spielberg choreography, no HK style fighting, but enough cool tricks (nice gun scene in a lexus warehouse) to keep the wow factor up.
Also, the jet-pack scene in the ally is top notch, and again, actually believable.

    FX: 9:

For the first time in a looooong time, they're not overdone and actually feel like part of the story. The only thing I thought looked blatantly fake was a chase scene on the highway (you be the judge). I loved the fact that everything looks like it's about 20 years from now; cereal boxes animate and billboards talk to you personally, via retina scan. some choice bits are really funny...

    Ending: 7
Without giving it away, I must say it's classic Spielberg again, wrapping it up neatly and making a happy ending. But I must admit, I was going to be mad if he didn't do that. It may be a little contrived, but I had a great time and left feeling really good about American justice, of all things. I'd heartily reccomend it, go see it TONIGHT.

    Overall 8/10

  6. This movie also starts out as one of Spielberg's darkest films, the opening scene is kinda disturbing...be warned...

  7. Well, Thanks for the good impressions Red I will be seeing the film probably tomorrow, and will also post my impressions here.

Does it have gunfights, or its just fights with stun sticks?

Not the sort of gun fights you're looking for despair.
It has some gunplay, but it was all very restrained, almost like they were really cops and didn't want to fire all over a crowded city in real life. That's the reason I liked that style; every shot fired felt meaningful.
Some good fighting, but nothing extraordinary; tom is athletic, but no jet li. Gotta love the sick stix and spiders, though...

And to clear things up, the ending was very tidy (almost too clean an ending for this type of movie), but it did make you feel good, without seeming like a cheap wrap up (which it borders on). So it passes my test....

  10. Oh, Well. I will still take a look see

    Thank you Red.
