Thread: Minority Report + impressions

  1. Well...I saw the movie this afternoon. Damn movies are expensive as hell to see today. Oh well. Anyway...the movie is alright. I wish Ridley Scott directed it. Though with some of the movies he's done recently I don't know. It was another story by Philip Dick. I am going to read the book as soon as I can get my hands on it. On to the movie...It was alright as I said before. I thought the ending was not right. Everything is tied up in a neat little package () and it's happy. Too bad...they could have done it much differently. Not that every movie has to have a "bad" ending but I'm sick of "good" endings in hollywood movies. The acting was all good and the special effects weren't the priority in every scene which was nice. The story itself is great (hey it was originally a book by Philip K. Dick...what did you expect? ) and very interesting. I was a bit disappointed by the ending but I still think people should see it. It ain't no Bladerunner but what is?

Just an observation but from what I've seen this place has changed.

    Later all...

  2. Just got back from seeing Minority Report. The film was really enjoyable. It had me guessing throughout the whole film on what was going to happen and just as you think you figured it out, something else happens. While the movie does have its fair share of action, don't go seeing it to see a action movie or you will be dissapointed. My favorite action scene wasn't even in the film, it was the trailer for Daredevil. Overall, I give the film an 8 out of 10.

  3. Red pretty much summed it up, this movie was GREAT, I loved every second of it, and I highly recommend you go out and see it.

  4. Saw it yesterday. It was pretty good. Like AI, Minority Report would have been better without the last 20 minutes of the film. worth going to see? Yeah, I'd say so.

  5. Well, Just saw it today, and I regret to say, but didnt like it. It felt somewhat boring, too long, and could've been better without the last 30 minutes or so. As I said before, I'm not Spielberg fan, and can't call myself Cruise fan either, so this combination didnt do anything for me.

The film felt slow and 140 minutes was 40 minutes too many, it lacked action to be called action movie, and drama parts were boring to be good drama. Story was ok, but there were plenty of predictable parts, but I was surprised to find out who was really the killer.

Action scened, the few that were in the film were good, but most of the fx felt too fake, especially super highway. THe music was little annoying as well.

Actor performances were good, but its the story, and direction that was little lacking.

I probably going to in minority here , that I didnt like it, but I wish I waited for video on this one. At least I saw the trailer for Daredevil, and that was more exciting than whole MR movie

  6. I'm not going to over analyze the movie. All I'm going to say is that I enjoyed the movie.

    *SPOILER WARNING*******************************

Well I just saw it this afternoon and really enjoyed it.I loved the details and the look of the 2054 World. The Cereal box was the animated animals to the hologram type disks/live photographs gave the atmosphere great depth. I liked the weaponry and the sick stick which makes criminals puke, cool concept. The jet-pack chase scene was incredible. Cool how people's eyes would be scanned and how he had to get replacement eyes and the shady doctor who he had do the operation. My favorite part was the Spiders heat sensing spiders came up when people were fucking and a dudes on a toilet and how he hid in ice water. Did you guys catch the Cops show in the future funny eh? Or the virtual reality rooms where you can have people kiss your ass and the guy says "no your the man" Just little things and commercials were funny and gave alot of style to the Movie. Well worth the $5 bucks I paid to see it and my favorite Movie this Summer

Anyone exited about the PS2 game?

and oh yeah "Everybody runs" Great line

  8. SPOILERS OF COURSE

Well someone mentioned over anylising but with a movie like this somethings just can't be helped but noticed. The odd thing is I did enjoy the movie but felt many things could have been handled better. For one the year, 2054. Theres a lot of ground work between now and then to be laid out, I mean it's only 52 years. I don't know why they stuck with that date, if it was the original date in the short story or not but adding some more time wouldn't have hurt. Vehicles that connect directly to your house, all the seperate highways for those types of cars, the buildings, I mean it just wasn't believeable... not even with suspension of disbelief thrown in.

Next up, the first thing thats made clear to us as viewers is how pre meditated crimes no longer exist because of the precrime system. Well it wasn't clear how pre meditated crimes were easier to pick up then crimes of passion. Which brings up two other major issues but I'll leave those out for now.

Next is the subway scene where his retinal scan is taken and it's picked up immidietly by the precrime network for them to act on it, but when the guy strolls into the precrime building, with his own eyeball retina scan no alarms go off. I mean this guy is wanted. Last time I checked when someone is wanted in this time period and lets say for example their drivers liscence is swiped into the polices computer it lets him know right away. Or how about my job, if I get fired theres no way my card is going to allow me access anywhere after that but in the future you still have access to everything. That really bugged me, I mean give me a break, they are so advanced yet this doesn't get carried over?

What else? Oh yes the famous jet pack scene. I don't see how this works, especially without some sort of propulsion system on the back of the pack. And if that were the case then Tom would of had quite a few burns all over his body. But lets forget that for now and cover the scene where Tom is on dudes back and they are parallel to the ground, how the fuck is everyone else keeping up with them when they are pretty much perpendicular. If anything they should be going up more then they are going forward.

Then theres the ending. Personally I think it should of ended at the gunshot. Then you are left to wonder what happened. Did he shoot John Anderton or himself? It would have fit more with the rest of the movie. Steve needs to also learn what to cut out. The movie was a little too long. The first thing to cut out should have been the ending like some have already mentioned.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot. John's wife strolls in to rescue him and the guard wonders how she got in and she shows him John's original eyeball. Two things. Where the fuck did she get it? And don't tell me from that box of his shit cause why would they give that back to him especially when it still has access to everything and...!!!!! WHY THE FUCK DOES IT STILL HAVE ACCESS TO EVERYTHING! The guy is convicted and imprissoned. Doesn't any one clue in to remove all access and priveleges. Geezus.

Oh and one thing that was useless was that shit he shot up his chin to disfigure him. Did he really need that since everyone reckognized him anyways. And he didn't have to deal with anyone the way he went in.

There is more but I'll leave it at that for now. This by the way is the result of a 10 minute discussion my friend and I had in the car and keep in mind I've left out two major issues that I came across that didn't seem right.

  9. I really enjoyed the movie, go see it.

  10. Hmm, I wonder if my movie tastes are different from the majority of people here, since I didnt find this film enjoyable(pretty much the same way I felt about Spiderman). Me and my wife actually felt somewhat bored. It had some good parts, like above mentioned spider sequence, or scene where John and Agatha evade cops in the mall, with her predicting future and telling John what to do. But for majority of the film, it felt slow. It might be just me, I dont really like they way Spielberg films are lately.

I liked the feel, with its dark overtones, but the unnecessary and very forced happy end, was unwanted.

Dyomides brought up some good points on the film logic flows, like the idea of continuing use of his old set of eyes, even though thet would HAVE to trigger alarm on the first use. Which doesnt happen.

Also when he gets into that red Lexus, and drives away from the factory, first how could he get control of the thing in the first place, without keys or other things. Plus remember, when his own car got stoped on the freeway, and was being towed away so he can be arrested, but NOTHING was done to the red car. What, they cant get the ID number of that car from the factory computer and put all city alert on that?

Another part, How did he got back into the city, with his old eyes still being able to get scanned by all those various scanners everywhere, and police alerted?

He uses his OLD CREDIT card to pay surgen for the operation, wouldnt it alert cops, that credit card WAS used? It can be done NOW, and nothing happens in the future?

They never really explaind what DID happen to his son, or what will happen to the family of LEO CROW.
