Thread: Official PlayStation 3 Thread

  1. [edit]: Hmm, I don't know. From their "workaround," it sounds like they're just admitting their game is crashing:

(But does anybody expect a Rockstar game not to crash?)

Then they throw in that part at the end about overheating, but that doesn't really constitute an admission of guilt. And really, how do you write game code that breaks the hardware. Even if that's somehow possible, it's still the console manufacturer's fault for not implementing safeguards.

But mom! Billy did it too!

Yeah, fuck all those broken Gamecubes, N64s, SNES and NES systems.

They were all weak for their time.

Yeah, and damn all those PS2 software issues and red ringing Xboxes. What the fuck is your point? We're talking about the current generation.

For the record, the every one of those Nintendo systems was shitty in at least one way, except the GameCube.... well, if you ignore the controller.

My only point is you make some hastily over generalized statements when you say things like Nintendo shouldn't touch hardware or software which runs hardware. They have an incredibly clean track record. Especially if

We're talking about the current generation.
When was the last time a Nintendo console was known for premature breaking? Do they even have a buzz term like RROD or YLOD? Did they just have the largest personal data leak ever? Are they about to release an update which will brick some earlier consoles? Are they now, unfotunately, notoriously known for removing functionality like backwards compatibility in later renditions of their hardware? Is there even a single GC game that doesn't run on Wii? I have no qualms buying the next system by any manufacturer or assumptions that their next system will be a risk to buy at launch, but come on lets be realistic here. Twenty plus years of making handhelds and consoles and they've never once been known for faulty hardware and they're the company that shouldn't build systems anymore? Get real.

Premature breaking is not the only measure of hardware design. Horsepower, connectivity, media, controller design, etc. all matter as well. And Nintendo has had failures across all of those areas.

In terms of software, look at the Wii operating system / user interface. It's horrific. Compare the Wii Shop to the PSN Store on XBL.

  7. Yeah, and those could be reasons they need to step up their game. I won't argue with that.

It's just stupid to say that the company with the cleanest track record and safest systems should stop building hardware. Their hardware not being top of the line is in no way the same level of problem as the highest failure rate in media electronics or the potential loss of hundreds of millions of users personal information. Just, be normal about this shit.

  8. I still want to know how software can kill a PS3. That shit is rad. Assassin programmers.

They unquestionably all suck, which is why we need a common platform that manufacturers who don't suck can make. 3DO had it right, but we certainly wouldn't get hardware companies eating cost to sell systems in that model.

Videocard fans are controlled by software, right? Fuck up the software, console gets too hot and dies.
