ZOMG FIRES!!! Part II

I live in Santa Ana, I'm about 15 miles away from the fire in Irvine. I'm in no danger at all, since I'm in the middle of the city, and don't live on a hillside track house, like all the homes that are in jeopardy. However, I am getting sick of seeing the same breaking news coverage on every local station.

irvine is completely covered in smoke, laguna hills is smokey but nowhere near bad. Irvine seriously looks like the second picture above. My 2nd campus is closed due to the fire (but i dont have class till wednesday, i dont think itll effect me)

That's some scary shit right there... my mom got an email from her cousin's wife saying that she evacuated, but her cousin Chuck is still staying in the house =\

I'm sitting in La Jolla (UC San Diego) right now and it's pretty smoky outside. Going outside without a mask/bandana is lung suicide. As long as Torrey Pines and Scripps Ranch is safe, I don't really have to worry. But these fires are unpredictable as shit, especially with winds of up to 40 mph.

This shit is fucking nuts though, the stuff they show on the news makes San Diego look like the Apocalypse. I hope everyone stays safe.

Shit, Torrey Pines is being evacuated. Basically if the fire jumps the 5 and makes its way down the coast, UCSD is totally fucking toast.

This shit is scary as fuck. It's really hard to breathe outside now. The smoke is getting a lot worse.

I get a call this morning from my store manager saying he can't open the store because the freeway's closed off. So I drive up to the store and see the whole shopping center is covered in black smoke, and at about 11pm everything has a brown tint, like a sepia tone. My district manager is being a dick saying I can't leave until both the Target and TRU in the shopping center close up first. TRU I can kind of understand but it's still a bullshit call, but Target? They actually sell food and water, so they can contribute to this somehow, but what the hell can I do? Sell DSs and PSPs to kids who are holed up in school gyms?

Minutes later I see the TRU store manager peeling out of the parking lot, and I start smelling the smoke in the store. I know the guy next door at Vans pretty well and he's been keeping filled in that pretty much all the stores were shut down or shutting down, except for Target which was packed as fuck. At about 11:30pm I told my DM that I was leaving and I didn't take no for an answer. I've spent the rest of the day til now taking naps (only got three hours of sleep since I thought I would be working at 1pm instead of 9am), packing up valuables, and watching the news.
