They both looked like shit. Also, it's worth mentioning JK didn't come out till '97. Did you mean just straight Dark Forces? I personally liked it, and Blood, more than Goldeneye, but I can't deny that for it's time Goldeneye looked about as good as the other 3D shooters and had better maps and weapons.

EDIT: Actually, now that I look at it Goldeneye 007 was out in '97 too. I must have misread someone saying 1995 and that's what got me mixed up.

  2. Jedi Knight is still pretty fun to this day (I beat it and Jedi Outcast about two summers ago) because it's got a steady frame-rate and good controls.

Goldenye/Perfect Dark are lacking in both aspects, but even then, they were still better than anything else you could play on a console until Halo hit the Xbox.

Point is, for people who weren't playing PC games online in the late '90s, the Rare shooters were the best available option, by far.

Yep. I bought my first pc (with an awesome Pentium 2 and Voodoo Banshee..wooo!) in early 1999 so I didn't have any access to pc shooters until then.

I loved Goldeneye back in '97 and yes.. I played Duke Nukem and Quake on the Saturn and Doom on the 32X and N64 all before playing the pc versions.

  4. The most amazing thing about Goldeneye is the fact that it is a movie licensed game that doesn't suck. I don't think this happened before GE.

  5. This discussion needs more SHOGO

  9. Microsoft just announced that a couple of XNA community games will be available to download today.
    R.I.P. Paragon Studios

  10. Nice to see something finally coming out of that.

MS recently announced that many university students can get a free year subscription to the XNA creator's club or whatever, so I'm curious to try that out.
