Thread: Transformers Movie Thread 2.0

  1. Just saw this a couple of days ago. I think all Michael Bay movies and sequels follow a pattern. The first movie is pretty entertaining with nice action and a fairly coherent plot. Then the second movie cranks up the action to the point of ridiculous while tossing the plot right out the window. This movie is no different.

With that said, I still liked this one a lot. It's not as polished (I'm using that word very loosely) as the first one, but the awesome parts are just so fuckin' awesome, especially Optimus Prime kicking all sorts of motherfuckin' Decepticon ass ("I'll take you all on!", "Let's roll!"). Yes, the plot is all over the place, the character development was non-existent, and the editing is bit fucked up, but we all really came for transforming robots wrecking shit, and that's what we got big time.

The only part I could have done without was the Terminatrix college chase. It just didn't really fit and would not have affected the movie at all if it had been eliminated completely.

  2. It was solid, about on par with the first one for the most part. It's not the complete horrorshow everyone was making it out to be, not is it great cinema with a solid plot and well-developed characters. It's giant robots beating the shit out of each other. I would have liked more development of the robots and less annoying humans (I REALLY hated Sam's parents this time around), but whatever.

The reefer madness mom, robo-balls, and niggerbots were all super lame, but on the plus side the camera was pulled way back during the fights and you could actually see what was going on for once. The fight in the woods where Optimus whooped mondo ass was really good.

Good to see my boy Soundwave finally (especially with Frank Welker voicing him), but it's a shame we never got to see him in his robot form. Oh, well, at least he didn't get killed, like poor Ravage did.

Overall, it was fun but completely mindless.

  3. Ok, now to add my own opinion on this.

Pretty Fun. Completely idiotic and fairly overlong. Dont bother using logic while trying to understand to storyline and go with RIDE rigged with Big explosions and Bigger Robots. Its NOT a Good FILM, but damn FUN summer escape MOVIE. After a lot of disappointments this year (Wolvie and Salvation come in mind, though I did like Star Trek more than TF2) I was glad just relax and enjoy mindless robot action.

Now in a bit of detail. Overall, I still think first film was "better". It felt more cohesive and robots as whole had more personality and their own moments. In the sequel, only Optimus and Bumblebee (and bits of Jetfire), were ones who got some of the attention shine to them.

Bay being Bay, did what he always does, awesome explosions, seamless CG and SFX, and as a pleasant surprise MORE VISUALLY COHERENT fights. Yes, in most of the fights this time around, you COULD see all of the action happening on the screen. I didn't had much problem with even the first film's action moments, but I can see where people could have.

Robot FX were even grander than in original. Both heroes and villains got nice visual face lifts, but too bad most of the less known decepticons were more of a gray cannon fodder mass at the end. At least you could tell good and bad guys by the glowy eye color

Still, for the robot movie, it did had too much humans once again. Though thanks god for the loss of fat black hackers and blond scientist. Torturo's character still being annoying comedy relief though. So was Sam's roomie. Some jokes in the flick did work, but there were plenty of useless humor, that we and movie running length could have lived without.

The temp was pretty brisk, even for its overly long 2.5 hours run time, and almost constant barrage of action moments helped quite a bit, though I do think that action came to more of a crawl for about 20-25 mins at the beginning of Egypt adventures. Most of that could have been easily edited down. Sam's parents bits were also really unnecessary, though I really enjoyed kitchen appliance rebellion bit and Bumblebee taking half of the house down. Good stuff there.

Human leads did their parts to look pretty and run around in slow mo. Nothing more nothing less than required. Megan Fox looked hot, even in dirt, Shia was heroic, army dudes were patriotic, rest were comic relief lol

Even with all of the hate this flick gets, I am surprised how more fun this was than Terminator Salvation. What even more funny as how this had some of parts and homages to Terminator films, and to Salvation. I really LOLED to the Jetfire sacrificing his HEART oh, I mean SPARK to the John Conner...I mean Optimus Prime While unexplained Terminatrix sequence was a hoot, and the chick was hot so good times.

Man, Optimus was fucking Force of Nature in this. All of his action scenes had me in WOW state, was he was kicking ass and taking names. Forest Battle is a film highlight Him kicking an stabbing the shit out of Megatron and 2 other decepticons at the same time, ripping trees to use as fight sticks, and ripping the fucking face off one of the baddies was fucking awesome. His death moment was also great touch, and his return while very cliche had me going. I just love that big truck

Loved Bumblebee and his scenes - His fight against Snakebot and Ravage was great. Speaking of Ravage, poor kitty - I liked that shiny metal pussy.

Jetfire was great as well. Him taking out the Heli-Bot and Scorpook, and heroic exit were great touches.

Oh yeah Niggerbots - Didn't mind them much. Though I do with I could understand more of their dialog, but then the sound in the theater was rather shitty and I couldnt get half of robo-talk

Arcie bikes were trash though. And was that Jazz again? Alive and kicking ass for a whole of like 2 minutes of screen time he had?

The Fallen and Meggs were such a Star Wars rip-off. Good thing that Optimus was less of a Luke like pussy. Its kinda sad main baddie went down so fast, I wanted bigger cooler fight - Robo Swords vs Robo Spear.

Oh yeah - Soundwave was fucking great - except for no action, and just sitting in orbit, humping that military satellite. But here is hoping for more him in action in part 3.

So this definitely needs less hate - but hey, Yawa and Yawa bots will be in soon to fight this their way

From what I could tell when it was playing on the other screen at the drive in, this movie is way longer than an hour and a half.

This is basically it. My title for the movie is Obnoxious Transformers 2. All the bad stuff is just over the top nonsense that should have been reigned in. Way too long. I have no problem with the action direction (same with the first, it's easy to tell what's going on), it's the sloppy editing and too many robots that's the problem. More so than the first, it's too hard to tell where one robot begins and the other one ends. Especially when you don't get an introduction to these things that just fall out of the sky. You literally don't know who is fighting because all you saw was a meteor hit the ground and something stands up in the smoke.

  6. seen dis tonite

a touch on the long side for sure, but I was able to follow that "ridiculous non-existant hole-filled" plot just fine

  7. Saw it again tonight. While I enjoyed it the other night, I found it somewhat grating the second time through. Too long, too many characters, too little plot. The first movie was totally better, aside from the improved camerawork, the Soundwave cameo, and Prime's awesome ninja skillz. You gotta love that motherfucker.

    I hate Sam's parents. They're worse than 100 niggerbots.

  8. The more I think about it, the more I don't like the movie. I don't think I could ever sit through it again.

  9. Might go see this over the weekend. It seems like it has things going for it.

Not Dinobots, though. I'm sneaking in to this motherfucker after a better movie.
