Thread: No Country for Old Men

  1. This movie is so good that it has made me get off my ass and actually finish the book when there are so many good videogames for me to play. I almost done with the book, and have to say the movie and book are spot on. I still don't understand his little are gun, is it ice that is shot out through the tube, or what?

  2. Ohhhh yeah, he talked about a cattle gun during the movie

  3. I was loving the movie up to the ending.... it just lost me with so many random sequences. I guess I'll have to try and watch it again to see whats the big deal over this movie, but as of this point it just seemed like a great cat, and mouse movie with a hacked ending.
Dont be a robot, be human.

  4. I think your mistake is in taking Josh Brolin's character as the protagonist, possibly.

In most ways he was. His problem is that he wanted this to be a "cat and mouse" movie and fit the usual kind of story arc where two sides struggle and one side wins and this isn't that story.

It's not a hacked ending. It's exactly as it was in the book, from what I understand, and, while unconventional, it's still really strong.

  6. It's definitely billed and kind of set up like a two-sided cat and mouse story. Really, now that I think about it the Tommy Lee Jones character is a bit underdeveloped (at least in the first half of the movie) which kind of gives the impression that he's one of the B-characters on the "good guy" side of Llewlyn. Which is another reason why his getting shot 3/4ths through the movie comes as a pretty big shock--it felt like Janet Leigh getting killed half way through Psycho.. Regardless, I don't see what the problem is, it isn't exactly traditonal story telling, but who wants to see the same shit over and over again?

Exactly. Why is everyone so bothered that the story didn't go exactly where they expected it to?

If Llewlyn got away with the money and moved to a big house, and shot Chigurh in a dramatic gun battle, would that have been a better ending?

Why would you go to a movie and start to not pay attention by the end?

  9. The whole movie was great, too many people expect a Hollywood ending.
