i just got back from seeing this. too many plot holes. i agree with most of what dolemite noted about the movie and will try not to repeat it.
i know the art of storytelling is lost, but this is getting stupid. a 'let me tell you my evil plan' scene?! wtf? it's not like revealing the plot slowly throughout the movie would've been hard. lazy fucks would rather just tell the audience everything, even though it makes no sense for a computer to do that. need-to-know basis, and marcus didn't need to know.
it also doesn't make any sense that marcus was chosen for this mission. his psychological profile doesn't fit that of someone who'd be okay with betraying the human race. he felt remorse for what he'd done and he felt that he deserved to die. skynet didn't even put in a failsafe: marcus still had free will and no self-destruct trigger.
why are a bunch of the bases aboveground? shouldn't they be hiding underground almost totally? and why is john connor so useless? he was always supposed to be some big leader, but now he kind of follows the military around while they tell him to go away. some think of him as a "false prophet." prophet?? he's supposed to be teaching the people held captive by skynet how to fight back against the machines. in this movie he just opens some cages so they can escape.
personally, i think the military should have been crushed. skynet had all military knowledge, so it would've already bombed the hell out of them all. the resistance should've been mostly civilian, and that would've made john connor much more important. and general ashdown was just a stupid character. willing to kill what little is left of the human race, sending out a signal from the submarine he's worked so hard to keep hidden... skynet would've pwned his ass on judgment day.
the arnie scene could've been a lot better. john connor should have had some kind of reaction to seeing this model again. even an 'oh shit' moment would've been nice.
there's no big war, which is disappointing. and there's no character development. this movie should have been about john connor, not marcus. marcus isn't important in the grand scheme of things, skynet screws up its own plan, and in the end the idea of the marcus plotline just should have been scrapped.
if the movie can't have good writing, it could at least have more robots, terminators, and explosions. less crappy characters no one cares about unless they're getting torn in half with bullets.
still, it was kind of fun to see the robots and destruction and stuff on the big screen. but people shouldn't go in there with high expectations. too bad, too, 'cause i really liked the trailer (though i'm sure the NIN music had a lot to do with that
).
and if they make another movie and it's STILL not the human vs robot war, i think fans will go after McG with torches and pitchforks (and laser guns!).
