This is my main gripe about the movie, aside from the handy USB ports on the terminator bikes and the front door of the Skynet facility. How can Skynet have a master plan in play for the removal of John Connor and Kyle Reese when they haven't done anything yet? And if they were aware of the relationship between them, and Kyle Reese was number one on their hit list, why not squish him when they identified him among the other prisoners?

Bingo. I kept thinking this the whole time.How in the fuck are Kyle Reese and John Conner on the MOST WANTED List or whatever.Johns only in charge of one faction of the Resitance at this point.At what point would Skynet have DNA/facial or whatever data on Kyle or John. Maybe John if the chick Terminator from T3 uploaded her data to Skynet (is T3 still considered canon in this?)
That and why oh why wouldnt they just kill Kyle when they had him captured? Game Over. Conner would have never known daddy was dead and still could have fell for the trap.

Basically was alright, not enough future weapons/lasers, not enough Terms,too much Marcus,not enough character - I think Dole mentioned this but John didnt comment on Bryce Howard's (was this Kate? he never even used her name, dont think anyone did) pregnancy at all.The whole time I was seeing scenes with her in them I was wondering if Bryce Howard got knocked up in real life and McG was just hoping the audience wouldnt notice.So she was carrying John Conners baby? No exposition at all into that.
Very glad they changed the John Connor = terminator ending though....

I am not sure anything actually happened in this flick.

The resistance is at exactly the same place at the beginning of the movie and the end of the movie, and the stakes weren't raised one iota. The last shot could loop right back to the first shot in the future, and you wouldn't know the fucking difference.

Said resistance consists of a bunch of above-ground bases that the KILLER ROBOTS don't seem to want to bother with?

Well, supposedely this isnt even doing as well as T3 in the box office so guess this was a bust.

Storyline wise - Since when did the Terms or Skynet EVER know that Kyle Reese was John Connors father? It wasnt ever mentioned in any of the older movies was it?

It was explicitly mentioned that they did not, and implied that John himself might not have known.

I meant to mention this before, but re-watching the original Terminator today, one of the things that most caught me about Salvation was seeing the T-101s maneuverable far more than they've ever been before. When the first one is chasing after John after the helicopter crash, it just shocked me for a moment to see it not look like a stop-motion action figure. Props to what T1 and T2 did for their times, but wow, for me seeing them in Salvation truly gave them the ruthless, dangerous killing machine persona they were always supposed to have.

I may have missed it while Doc Brown and Stephen Hawking were debating about time travel, but did the movies or show ever explain how Skynet managed to discover and master time travel to begin with? It wasn't even a thought to humanity, but in less than 4 decades Skynet discovered how to do it on a regular basis? When?
