Who cares?
I am dictating this letter in response to the editorial cartoon which Dan Wasserman had published on November 20th. I would write it myself, but, since Mr. Wasserman is correct in his assesment that by my being a videogame player, I am illiterate, I am unable to compose this document myself. I hope you appreciate the effort it has taken me to have this document created as well as finding this webpage in the first place.
There are two main points which I want to elucidate upon:
First, most videogame players seek difficulty and challenge. Many of us get the highest amount of satisfaction in overcoming the most difficult of obstacles which we encounter, and take little to no solace in fulfilling mundane tasks. This is similar to how most people would perceive no difficulty nor find little reward in beating a physically impaired person in a boxing match, or authoring a political cartoon which makes videogames out to be a scapegoat for how ignorant children are today.
Second, many videogames present players with several hundred thousand words of text which are enthusiastically read, digested, and analyzed. The quality of these stories may be argued, to be certain, but only the most ill-informed and ignorant of people would believe that videogame players are afraid of reading text. It is something which many of us embrace each time we sit down to play a video game, and consume as much story as we would from any sort of literature. It is something which compelled me to teach myself Japanese, in fact. This is quite a feat when my illiteracy is taken into consideration, as Mr. Wasserman has correctly assumed that I am.

That's pretty much the point of political cartoons nowadays.

It's a really, really dumb strip, but comparing text boxes in RPGs to an actual book isn't much better.
Even if a story isn't in text there's still a lot of it out there for players to digest if they really want to get into it. MGS games have nearly half of the game's total time spent in radio discussion.

It's not often that people take the time out of their life to alter and host pictures based on shit I've written.
Looking at the demographic that this political cartoon is targeted to, it's no surprise that it is all "kids playing their goddam pac-mans all day and rotting their brains back in my day blah blah blah...".
